HELP with my digital hygrometer

Im using a digital temp/hygrometer for my incubator and also for my fruiting chamber. The only problem is that it actually doesnt display any humidity reading at all. When its outside of my terrarium it has a reading but will only display two dashes when i put it inside my terrarium, either on the bottom or stuck on the walls of the terrarium. Has anyone had any similar problems with their hygrometer or am i doing something wrong? what can i do to make my hygrometer display a reading?

I guess i dont really even need the thing but i want to know how high my humidity is because im using perlite and just want to make sure i have enough humidity. I prepared my perlite by wetting it to field capacity in a large bowl and then placing it in my terraruim about an inch thick then placing a small amount of dry perlite on top of the wet inch. Some people just pour in an inch of perlite and then pour water up to 1/2 inch. Will my method suffice or should i add more water as there is no visible standing water in my terrarium? thanks for your help.

Mine does that when the humidity is too high (over 99%).
I know that some sensors will max out at 90-95% also.

i got one at wal mart and over 89 it reads hi......real useful at keeping stuff at 95%..lol... i'm switching to analog

Try this. Very, very accurate. Reads to 99%. Mine salt tested at 74%.

i have the one from wal-mart to.. and 2 analog ones in my chamber so i have a decent idea what it is in there.. but if you have a digital hygromitor and if your chamber has condensation on it it will screw up your hygromitor (unless its a water proof one..) if you have a sodering iron check out this tec http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/26927 i did it and it works like a charm.. and i have never sodered in my life:) just use some comin sence.
