dead mycelium

I have some jars incubating. One of the closest jars to the heat source, (a fish tank heater in a jug), got this grey chunk in the middle. Looks like dead mycelium, but I dont know if dead mycelum gets grey.. heh.

contamination!?

Does the grey portion blend into the white mycelium? I have found that old mycelium can turn a grey/blue color. I would expect mycelium to be your grey if you placed previously colonised jars next to the heat. I have had problems w/ jars too close to a heat source. Try shielding your jars by adding a diffuser to your set-up. A piece of cardboard between your jars and heat source may help you.
