Alternatives to Wide-Mouth Jars???
    #536561 - 01/31/02 02:17 AM (23 years, 23 days ago)

This is going to sound silly, but I can not find any wide mouth mason jars in this city! I've checked Grocery Stores, Zellers, Walmart, Stores that sell plates and glassware and crap like that. I've been all over, and they all tell me. "That's seasonal, we don't sell those right now".... What else can I use instead of wide mouth mason jars? Can't I just use regular ones? I intend on breaking up the mycelium into the casing anyhow, so can't I juse put it in a regular mason jar that gets smaller at the top, and just break it up to get it out? Or, I have also read I can use a small glass cup instead that gets wider at the top, and cover it with 3 layers of tinfoil and have tiny tiny holes from syringe innoculation in the bottom 2 layers? Could this work as well? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you're going to case, then any jar will work.
