My friend in the UK says they are not available. The best you can do is the 'bon maman' jam, or sainsbury's similar, jam jars. These work fine. Once you have them, they will last. Hope you've got a sweet tooth!
Good luck

PKube,
Try looking at large chain GROCERY stores in the USA. Almost all carry them. Ask the clerk where the canning supplies are? There is where you will find jars of all size.
As for in the UK. I don't know. But any wide mouth jar w/lid will work. That -- I do know (The Racccoon used tall Nestle Tea jars w/metal lids once -- way back when).

Im just curious, but why not use cups? I know a jar would be better, simply because its threaded, bu if you where to do something like, throw a double layer of tin foil over the cup (like in pf-tek for simply minds) and then put an elastic around that, THEN fold up the edges (and of course add the second single layer, loosly so as to remove and replace for inoculation, and then sterilize!) wouldnt that offer q real nice amount of protection?
Or you could do that, PLUS, put an elastic band around near the bottom of the jar, and after you innoculate them, and fold up the piece that used to be loose, you could pull that elastic over it as well, opretty much guarenteeing its sterility!
If youre using filters however, you obviously cant use cups! But none the less, ths would still kinda help me out as this is whhat I plan on doing!

Hiya, those sainsbury's type jam jars are fine - mine are colonising as we speak - the jars are equally as good as the canning jars, but might not be as resistant to the high pressures and temps of pc sterilisation. save your coffee jars, then use them to keep the jam in - i hate wasting food, but i couldnt wait to get the crop going! a lot of the ethnobotanical lit on the net is written by people from across the pond, so what they believe to be available on every high street can be incredibly hard for us to find. using the British alternatives, and posting your results will redress this balance somewhat, and we'll all be united under a glorious sea of shrooms. Only 6 weeks or so till the season starts too....... c u in a field somewhere SDAFC
