Has anyone ever used a food dehydrator to dry mushies? The box says that it preserves vitamens. If it doesn't reduce any of that shit I thought it might work for the hypothetical purpose of drying the mushrooms.

It'll work but you'll want to deactivate the heating elements.

please use the search function, this is a very old question.. heat = bad. dry = good. most dehydrators are nothing more than cheap heaters + fan..

I used my food dehydrator on the first coupleof flushes I grew and it turnedmy shrroms into mush. I tried to take it apart to disconnect the heating element and I didn't have the star bits to remove the two screws to get to the heating element. I haven't had the chance to get to Sears to get the proper tools to do the disection of my dehydrator yet. If your able to get yours apart without damaging it let me know what you did to disconnect your heating element. Thanks

Actually, here is the thing with food dehydrators. Some work, some don't. If your model has an adjustable temperature, a little birdy from a VERY reliable source once told me that 95 Degrees is a really great temperature to set it to and will save a lot of the potency and dehydrate your mushrooms PROPERLY. Now, if your Dehydrator does NOT have an adjustable temperature, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be set to a factory pre-set somewhere around... Oh, lets say 120 Degrees, and that is just WAY to hot a temperature to be dehydrating your mushrooms at! There yea go! Good luck! If you have an adjustable temperature knob, your set buddy.
