I have a bunch of regular rice grain laying around in my house, i was wondering if i could use it as a substrate and if it was any good...?

I think I once read a grow log on here where someone used white rice in the pf tek. From what I remember it colonized and fruited but did not give them any kind of trip when they ate them.
If this is true. Then in theory you could use it for making a PF cake then crumble that and spawn it to poo. But why do that when WBS is so cheap and easy.
Cook up that rice and make a stir fry with chicken.

doesnt sound very valid to me on a few counts...
1. the rice he has probably is loaded with preservatives that are gona nix any growth
2. if they did grow then the species/strain that did grow should be exactly the same as if it had been grown on anyother substrate, thereby producing the same alkaloids.

I have no clue where to start looking for that thread. But unless my mind is playing tricks on me I'm pretty sure I remember reading that one. Seeing as at the time I was doing PF tek and was having trouble finding BRF. but no matter.
But about your second point. Just because the same species of mushroom grows on two different substrates doesn't mean the mushrooms produced will have equal alkaloid content. Compair horse manure and BRF sure they grow on both just fine. But the horse manure grown shrooms are FAR more potent.
This isn't important tho. The fact is even if they will grow on white rice it's pointless because you can find brown rice. In my opionon for anyone with a PC it's pointless to grow on brown rice for that matter.
