Some dude was wondering if parafilming his plates will hurt his colonization on SDA in the incubation room. There are many other molds and fungi growing on plates that could be potential contams growing in the same room. Should he be using a more porous tape to allow gas exchange?

What is the best (in your opinion) tek for grain substrate? The dude would prefer a bulk substrate tek.

I have no idea bout the tape and gas exchange, but the rye is easy. I just buy a clear plastic oven bag. Boil up some grain until it starts to explode, leave in strainer for half an hour. Load the grain into the bag, twist the top and tie a loose knot, then pc at 15psi for an hour and a half. I did this with rye and birdseed last week, fit about 5-6 quarts worth of rye in the bag, used a pint of spawn, and 5 days later the bag is almost completely done.
