IPOD vs. MP3 Player vs. Sony PSP!!!

im going to buy one of these with my income tax return, but i dont know which.

I like the iPods because of all the accessories and it plays music which is the main goal. From my little knowledge on them though, you cant just put regular mp3's on it to play right? It has its own format or something? I have a ton of mp3's and dont want to start buying new music to put on my iPod.

This brings me to mp3 player, which could definately play my mp3's, so should be good, lastly is a PSP, which would be cool because it can play mp3's and movies too, if i was to get an mp3 player i would like it to have the music video feature, that is about what ive thought about it

what do yall recommend?

How many mp3's are you planning to store on the player?

IPods and several portable mp3 players come with built in hard drives, were you can store gigabytes of data; equivelent to thousands mp3s. And most play movies also.

PSP is nice but you have to buy storage cards for data. 2gb is the largest ive seen so far, and im sure its over $200. 2gb is enough for quite a few mp3's.

If your looking for an all around portable multimedia center id go with the PSP. If your looking to have a portable media storage device where u can store your entire music catalogue, go with a portable mp3/video player.

I am strongly opposed to Ipods.

The software sucks. Its incredibly gay to use, not to mention the fact that you cannot transfer your music off your ipod onto another persons computer, or vice versa. The non removable battery is stupid too. When it does eventually fail, you have to send it in to Apple and I think it costs close to $100 for a new battery and installation.

I would get an mp3 player if i were you. PSP's are nice, but to expensive in my opinion.

I would do some research and find out what you want.

Personally i dont like the video feature, i wouldnt ever use it, cause who wants to watch stuff on a 2 inch screen. not to mention your battery dies much faster when you are watching videos.

If i were you, i would just figure out all the features you want, then go to Yahoo electronics and read through all the reviews for the players you would like to have. that will give you a good idea of reliablity, software etc....

Or get the Audiovox XV6600 :cool:

Windows Mobile, Word, Excel, Windows Media Player, etc etc.

Which is why I bought a Creative Zen Nano Plus. It's only 1 gig but I can just pop in another AAA when needed.

im still leaning towards the psp, but i also want to be able to listen to it when i go riding, and im scared of breaking the PSP if i wipe out, i may just buy the psp and a cheap mp3 player to use when i ride, i dont know, shit, my tax return wont be here for awhile, so i have more time to decide

i have a psp... it's the Boss!

if getting one, you will need to get expanded memory for it
ie.) Memory stick Duo.

but having the ability to do soo much through it, and it's wifi, for internet browsing.

I would go with a dell mp3 player or an archos mp3 player.... ipods suck, apple cant make a good product without trying to take over the world with it.

i got an mp3 player, solid state memory, 1g built in, expandable to 2 or 3 with an extra chip.
all i wanted was super compact music. its awsome and only about 150-160 bucks with the upgraded memory. fits in my shirt pocket at work with most of my music on it.

It has very good reviews and is very reliable

Very easy to use also.. will accept .wav .mp3 and .wma files no problem..

10 times better than any ipod in my opinion.. and 20GB is enough to hold like some 5,000-10,000 songs....

I got mine about a week ago and I absolutely love it

I still got my ipod 6 gig mini, I have no complaints about it..

The psp is nice, too..I was messing around with a friend's..I don't know if I'd buy it, but it is damn nice

I have a 30gig ipod video, its the king shit. All my movies on it and all my music. Plus i can plug it into my tv, watch movies or play music. I want the 60gig though im running out of room.

Shroomism, does that require any special software to transfer files onto it? I'd need one with standard USB mass storage.

It comes with it's own software for transferring files..(also for editing info, organizing, etc) but can also be done through Windows Media Player or Napster. So no.. don't think it's standard mass usb storage.. you need one of those programs.
Another pretty cool feature it has is that it will rip CDs straight from your computer.. you just plug it into the dock.. hook up the usb.. put in your cd.. and hit one button on the dock and it rips it.

The 30 gig jetaudio x5($270) or the x5L($305) have both gotten rave reviews on newegg. They're both 30 gigs, play movies/pictures, play mp3 wma and wav, act as USB flash drives, and require no specific software to dload stuff onto (when you plug it up via USB, it acts as a new drive, in that you just drag and drop the files you want). Not to mention customizable backgrounds and whatnot. The difference b/t the two is that the x5 has 14 hr battery life and the x5L has 35 hr battery life.

And of course newegg kicks ass, so you know you're getting the best deal. Also, you can check the reviews for them yourself, most all giving either of them a perfect 5/5. I plan on getting the x5 once I get some excess cash saved up.

How much music have you got right now? Because 30 gigs is a lot.. like 10,000 songs worth or so. If you've only got like one or two thousand or something like that, perhaps you should check out the smaller gig models they've got to offer.

Here's a cool bit of software for ipod owners. It allows you to browse, play and take songs off of your ipod, and it can be run directly from your ipod and needs no installation.

I bought my ipod 20 gig 4th gen off ebay, used. Dropped it a few times, left it in the cold, the battery parcially froze, saying theres no battery charge left. This happened multiple times. Still playing tunes, tough mother fucker. Not to mention I left it in my car at over 100 degree weather a few times during the summer. Still banging them tunes.
