MP3 Players

I've looked through these threads till about early December. There may be an older thread about MP3 players on the shroomery, but technology changes. So its time for a new thread. Feel free to talk about what MP3 Player you have, and why you have it, etc. But I am going to tailor this specifically to my needs at the moment.
I have some extra cash to spend, and its time to get a new MP3 Player. My last one is too old. Its so old IPOD wasn't even known at the time, in fact I had to explain the concept of an MP3 player to a lot of people. But now everyone has one, and mine has been full for awhile, and its time to upgrade.
I am familiar with Creative Products, but am willing to switch to an IPOD. In fact, I am seriously considering the IPOD 80gb. I am leaning to that, simply because I don't see any creative products over 60gb. The price is daunting, but I feel its worth it. I could care less about video.
But what is the shroomerys opinion. Are IPODS worth it? should I go with the creative zen vision m?

noone needs more than 2gig of space on a mp3 player, except for people who like to have all of their music with them - permanently.
for people who like to have around what they just like, a 50$ player is all they need.
ipods are overpriced and hyped pieces of gobbledigoop.

I love sd card mp3 players.
I picked one up for about $10. It plays about twenty hours on one AAA battery, and I can carry as many sd cards with me as I like.
Plus, I don't have to worry about taking something worth hundreds of dollars with me everywhere, which is easy to break/lose/steal.

I listen to a lot of audio books, so I encode at very low bitrates and fit ludicrous amounts of stuff on a 2gB sd card.

I'm happy with my Cowon iAudio G3 1 Gig, mostly just use it for the gym.
I think you'd enjoy the Cretive Zen Vision M more than an Ipod.

Hi the best sound quality is undoubtedly Cowon. Ipods have terrible sound quality out of the headphone out.
You might want to check out the Cowon D2.

I wish i had tried apple before. MY last mp3 player was a 40gb from Creative Labs and it sucked ass. It was almost as expensive as the ipod. It Didnt have accesories or anything for it, and It is not I am into that. But i couldnt even find a case for it, after i lost the one that came with it. Nothing. Everything is made for ipods. Think about that.
The Ipod might be overrated but still works prety good and the custumer service is not that bad from what i hear (if it breaks).
If you get it get decent earphones you will be set. Because those that come with are garbage.

ps.) i have a set of stereo bluetooth headphones. (doubles as a BT headset when you get calls)
music automatically pauses, call comes through, then music starts again without missing a beat.
and seriously, you don't need more than 2 gb at a time. That's more time than in a day!
mp3 players (non ipods) rock. Drag and drop is the way to go

im agree with everyone else, and like the smaller drag and drop styles. I have a 512 MB creative zen micro that i use when i go ride BMX around town, then a 2GB SanDisk with radio that my wife uses for running/working out...they are both good in my opinion, and got the zen micro for 60 right when it came out. The 2GB sandisk was on sale for 49 dollars at officemax not to long ago...cant beat that

Well I have the 80gb iPod. Though I agree that once you hit the 1.50-2gb range you have over one days worth of music but it offers variety. I usually keep mine on shuffle and so it is hard to hear the same song twice. Besides an iPod I guess the Sony Zune is the way to go.

Microsoft* Zune.
I actually hear good things about it, despite my natural expectations of its crappiness, Alex Albrect from diggnation claims it's great for watching video and has a great battery life.

Thanks for the edit lol I for some reason thought Sony. Probably because I was playing PS3 at the time.

At the moment, I have a new 80gb iPod, which I bought because of the hard drive size. I have a lot of music on the computer and find it hard to pick what I want on my mp3 player. I like massive variety and knowing I don't have to keep deleting and readding things every time I go out. I was a little gutted that Rockbox haven't got a port for the 80gb model yet, but I hear they're working on it. Rockbox is great if you're sick of the iPod interface/firmware and want to drag and drop. And Rockbox has had gapless playback a while before iPod decided to only offer it for the new 5.5 Gen model. My first mp3 player was a 40gb iPod, and that is still going strong. I got the battery replaced the other year, but apart from that I haven't had any major problems. Generally if you take good care of em, they'll last a while. Get yourself a leather belt clip to protect it. I also got a 40gb Creative Zen Touch which is wonderful, but the size isn't big enough for my personal needs, and Rockbox doesn't have a port for this player. Then again, I think Zen Touch has been phased out.

I have the creative zen vision M 30g. I've had it for about a year now, which is why i have only the 30g version instead of the 60. I do love it though, despite it's small hd. It looks great, functions great, sounds great, and isn't an ipod.
the screen is sexy, so you can have an awesome wallpaper, however that serves no purpose. Videos are bearable.. in fact not bad at all. I've watched probably 20+ hrs on it during trips and whatnot, even stuff with subs.. the picture is really clear.
What's great is that you don't need need to fuck with itunes or anything like that. If you do like that itunes setup, then you can essentially do the same thing by syncing it up with your player (wmp or winamp or whatever). Or, as i prefer, you can just drag and drop your files into the zen folder when it's plugged up.
Few things to note however; it's slightly thicker than an ipod. the face is easily scratched, but that won't matter if you keep in in a case constantly. And the biggest qualm i have with it is that there is no gapless playback, so there's always a short 1 second pause b/t songs. Which isn't really too terrible.. but can kinda fuck with the flow of an album.
bottom line, i like mine a lot, it's not an ipod, and i would totally recommend it if you don't have more than 60g of music that you listen to regularly. plus, it's a bit cheaper, isn't it? i dunno, regardless, good luck finding what you want.
