Slightly mushy San Pedro.

I Ordered an 18" rooted San Pedro in January. I decided to cut off a portion of it. It was only about 6" worth.
Used isorpyl Alcohol to sterlize a very sharp knife. Then I left it in the dark in my room for about a month. Now apon inspecting it, the top half of it feels kind of mushy inside. And there is a small black spot on the callouse. I think it may have been infected while I cut it.
I have not watered it at all.
So I put it in the garage where it is nice and cold. Will this hault the infection? Do you guys think she will make it? Be safe to consume eventually?

Black + mush is a real bad sign.
I would cut off anything even slightly suspicious, and at least hope the bottom of the stalk will live to sprout some new tips.

putting the cactus in a garage will not save it. you need to cut away everything that seems infected and see if you have enough to make it root and grow after.
I have had this rotting myself a few times. It has often comed from the root area and grown up making it hard to see until the cactus starts to bend over and then I can take a cutting from it but saving the cactus has been impossible (at least for me),

Yeah, I got a cutting from BBB once. It was one of the nicest looking ones I'd ever seen, a couple black spots, but I thought they were just sunburn scabs or something. Sometimes little black spots are minor bacteria not to work with.
2 days later, the damn thing exploded. It was crazy... just horrible smelling cactus goo all over. It just got devoured from the inside out. I wished I'd saved the base of that plant in time.
Heres a pic by kakti on another forum, I hope he doesn't mind:

Another case where a normal, looking cactus with minor indications turned out to be a fucking *disaster* internally.

Much like infected mushroom jars in the contam section.
Too bad that the prettiest ones tend to be the most dangerous to be around. (pink)
