...AGAR Help!!!Sterilizing poo....

Apparently I need to sterilize my fresh horse dung because of the possible presence of wheat seed and such. Any ideas on how to do this without cooking it on a stove?

Sterilization will slow colonization and open the hpoo to contams by killing the good bacteria. Look into oven pasteurization.

Well, I already leeched the poo today, and its sitting in a pillowcase in my tub. How long do endospores in wheat/hay seed take to germinate? Would a good pasteurisation do the trick?

Who said you had to sterilize it? If you need to sterilize it, I would do it in spawn bags and inoculate with an LC like BlueHelix does. Otherwise, pasturizing will do the trick. I've had little sprouts pop up out of my poo during a grow and it never seemed to hurt anything. You can just pick them out.

skip all that hassal... www.tennstud.com just buy it... already pre-pasterize...
btw, you don't sterlize poo... you want to pasterize it

That all depends on your methods. I routinely sterilize my bulk substrates in spawn bags. As FooManShroom said, ala Blue Helix. I go from inoculation to fruiting in about 10 days. Gotta love it.

LOL...you guys dont get it. Ive been doing poo for a while now....Im not a newb.If you look at this post agar did today, HE said I had to. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5207352/an/0/page/1
He said that when using poo straight from a stable, that simple pasteurization just wont do, because of the possible seed in the poo. The seed contains endospores that will germinate and contam my grow, lol. Hope I clarified my question now.....

Why buy it, when you can get it FOR FREE? Pasturizing isn't as hard as people make it out to be.

Thanks for the lesson, but you can sterilize poo, like I said above. HERE is an example. If you aren't going to have the poo in a sterile environment (like a sealed spawn bag), then you definitely want to pasturize.

Well I don't see to many viable options for sterilization over then PC'ing it in some jars or spawn bags.
If your sterilizing it tho I'd say make sure your really aseptic when mixing in the spawn as sterilized substrates contam more easily.

I know you're not a newb dude
Unless you have a sterile lab-type environment, you should sterilize the poo with your PC in spawn bags. If you don't have an LC to noc it up, I'd mix whole grains in with the poo and inoculate with a spore syringe. Spores don't seem to germinate well, if at all in poo alone, at least IME.

If you're not getting the answers you want, perhaps you should shoot Agar a PM.

Nice find.
Ive read a lot of people are pasturising by simply putting the poo in a pillow case in a cooler, pour in boiling water and seal the lid - the heat stays trapped cause the cooler is insulated, after an hour or two you just take it out and squeese it out to field capacity.
This seems to me like one of the easiest, hassle free methods - and can be done outside if your worried about having poo floating around your kitchen. If you want to pasturise longer - simply drain the water out after an hour or two, and pour in fresh boiling water - but I think once would be plenty.

Yeah, I think I read about that too, RIGHT HERE!
You don't want the water boiling, you want a max temperature of 180F, otherwise you are venturing into sterilization territory. The temperature will stay in the pasturization range for hours if the cooler has a good seal.

Can you see hay seeds in it?
If so, are they viable seeds?
You can tell by mashing a couple.
If they are viable, they are firm & white inside.
If the mash, they usually are not VIABLE, and you can pasteurize it.
If they are viable seeds, then load autoclave bags & PC it.
Once PC'ed & cool, introduce a few handfuls of PASTEURIZED COIR to each bag & let it rest a few days.
That will unsterilize it.

The reason I suggested boiling water was because the temp would drop significantly when you poured it onto the cold poo - so Im not being very exact, no - but near enough would probably be good enough. I wonder how many degrees it would drop once you poured in it? Obviously depends on how much poo you have...
