Suicide and Society
    #5156144 -

whats up everyone...I'm just doing some research on Teen Suicide.

Suicide can become a reality for anyone regardless of age, sex, religion, race etc. What is to blame for this?  Canada is known as one of the greatest places to live in the world.  Teenagers are given so much potential to live out ‘The dream’ and yet suicide is the number two leading cause
of death amongst teenagers (in canada). The Internet, encyclopedias, books and media all point to the fact that society plays a big role and is doing a poor job in lowering suicide rates.

What do you guys think of that for an opening statement?

What do you think of the connection between suicide and society?  Teenage suicide rate is dramatically raising these days.  There has been alot of recent changes in society that in all probability hass influenced in the suicide rate rising such as:

"-a breakdown in the extended family
-a dispersal of communities
-an increased focus on material wealth
-an overwhelming prevalence of news media
-and an increase in focus on 'the self'."

The members of these forums are usually well educated in these sort of topics but a large quantity of the society is not.  Which brings back my thesis: society is not doing enough to prevent suicide (particulary TEENAGERS)

Anything you guys wanna say about this subject?

P.s. i didnt know if this was a good place to put this thread ?

Let's think about this for a moment.  You assume a shitload just by that little sentence.  What "dream" are you referring to here?  The "dream" of going to a public high school where submissive students are relentlessly picked apart by the more assertive students?  The "dream" of having needless and irrelevant information crammed into our heads just so we can get a little piece of paper to say that we're worth something?  But the "dream" doesn't end there.  The "dream" continues to include four more years of collage.  And if you don't go to collage, you suck, you'll end up working a fast food job flipping burgers for the rest of your life.

/sarcasm off.

That was my life.  And I had it pretty damn good compared to some people.

So I ask again...just what "dream" are you referring to here?  Society pigeonholes and labels people from the day they exit the womb.

Society isn't doing enough for suicide because society CAN'T.  Society itself is sick.  One big mental illness.  You know what?  I'm not at all surprised when I hear of someone killing themselves or wanting to die.  Not a bit.  In fact, I'm surprised (really, HONESTLY surprised) that it doesn't happen more often.

People are killing themselves because we live in a sick culture.  People are confused.  For some reason, we have been taught to be ashamed of the attributes that make us most human.  We have each been crammed into a "lifestyle" to survive, which many of us find repugnant.  Is it any wonder, is it any GREAT SURPRISE that people are rejecting the life that was enforced upon them?

Many people make an uninformed choice about suicide, but that is their choice.  Frankly, if I didn't have a global agenda to work with, I would have killed myself already.

Society can't help suiciders.  Society is strangling itself.

That's my opinion.  Good luck.

I totally agree with you!

We're putting too much pressure on the teenagers... We need to study, make homework, be a nice familyguy, have friends, have a job so you are able to deal with money, you need to have good grades, need to be nice, need to etc etc...

This is putting so much pressure on the teenagers that most of them reject it and either don't do anything at all or they turn to drugs or suicide. The pressure to perform and the fact that we'll always be labeled is something that will drive us all nuts... Some of us are already.

Society is bringing itself down and the ones that realise don't want to be there when we end. They want to end their life before society does.

I've been to high school and finished it... But damn did it put a lot of pressure on me to finish it. I've been to a good school and got a good education... What have I learned? Well basically I learned how to ask where I can find the airplane toilet in french or how I can solve math problems that you don't even need in normal life... Or how fast things will drop when you drop something on Mars... Who Cares... Goddammit... Is that why I've been to school for 7 fucking years?

I haven't learned any life lessons so far and therefore in my opinion those 7 years were basically wasted... I don't care if I'm able to solve math problems but I do care on how I solve life... I care about how I can be a good citizen and how I can survive on my own... I don't need society's opinion on how to survive... I got my own!

I'll finish this when I get back home....

Presure never realy goes away. Comparing the amount of presure I have now compared to the amount of presure I had when I was in highschool I can honestly say I have alot more. I would say that the only real difference is that the presure I have now is placed on me by my self. Some of this presure is due to trying to fit into social standards etc but for the most part now decishions all belong to me. I think rather then saying teenagers have too much presure it is more apropriate to say teenagers have to much presure in comparison to the amount of choice they have about that presure.

As for suicide in general I agrea society is just fucked up there are to many expectations people are expected to conform to. We try to fit everything into a tiny little box and people just dont fit into little boxes. I could rant about this and explain more but it would go on forever.

Dammit I hate it that I can't draw... I've been walking with this picture in my head all day since I read this thread but I simply can't put it down on paper...

I think it's mainly a thing of freedom... I didn't have any when I was in high School... You just had to come to classes, had to make homework, had to study... I don't have any of that anymore... Well yeah I have to get to work but I made that choice... I'm saving money to go on a journey across Canada and might even go there to study if I'm liking it up there...

I need some freedom in my life and I'm getting it right now...

Society is still trying to push you into what they see is right... How many times haven't I heard that I was stupid for quiting college and going to work and try to save enough money to leave here... Everyone will say I'm nuts for trying to seek for another life... They basically say that I ain't gonna make it up there... We'll see... and if I won't make it who cares... I'll have an experience that I'll never forget...

Society build this schedule of waking up work and going to bed again... 5 out of 7 days... 8 hours a day... Many Many week of the year and basically around 40 years of your life... Some people just can't handle it and seek for another life... But since society won't allow that they either have to go back into that schedule or live in sollitute... And some just don't want both so SOME go to the ultimate sacrifice which is suicide...

I think the media plays a big roll on teen suicide, especially for girls. Girls are expected to look pretty and fashion themselves up like little ms perfect. I mean look at most teenaged girls these days, about 99.9 percent of them dress themselves up like barbie dolls, and I'm not kidding. These girls are grasping for the unreachable "attractive perfection". Unsatisfied with their looks the closest they can get is by literally painting there face with makeup, decomposing the natural form from their human existence.
A combination of egoized parents fused with stereotypical school environments, media advertisements , and the television shows girls(and boys) are literally crumbled with unreachable delusions. It works just like the cigarette companies. Target the young, money for life, consequences of death.

People are realizing that there's too many people on the Earth and they're being the better people by taking themselves out and doing their part to save the planet.

Such remarks come from xanax'd out apathetic assholes.
