Suicidal thoughts are common during different phases of life, but even in the darkest moments of anguish and utter hopelessness, people emerge to find a sense of peace and a gratifying life worth living. In this day and age we have great means to alleviate mental or physical pain, even compared to five years ago. We implore you to consider less permanent and devastating solutions.

Acute suicidal thoughts and concrete planning constitute a valid medical emergency and should preferentially be dealt with by medical specialists. A web community lacks the professional attitude and effective strategies to handle such emergencies. If you are in this kind of situation, please reach out to any friends and loved ones and get trained assistance or visit a suicide prevention website. It is legitimate to call 911 (USA), 112 (Europe) or your regional emergency services if necessary.

For non-acute matters of life and health, please feel free to post here (anonymously if you like). We have members and moderators who are eager to listen and provide support. Many people find it therapeutic just to honestly discuss their problems with an empathetic audience.

      Just to let everyone know, I'm not depressed at all and simply want this info for curiosity's sake.
      I'm just wondering what you folks would think to be the most painless/easiest way to commit suicide. It would be preferable if the method would involve easily acquired, household items. I was thinking of the old razor blade to the wrists in a warm bath. I'm curious to see what you guys come up with.

Helium.

Hook up a helium tank to a mask that you wear. Lay down and breath normally. You fall asleep and never wake up. Utterly painless.

I've thought about this as well.

Once, I was put into a strangle hold by one of my older cousins, big fucker too...and at first it was only mildly uncomfortable not breathing, then I blacked out. Now, I guess if he wanted to, he could have killed me by continuing to hold on...but he didn't.

So, if I were to kill myself, I'd say go with hanging. Has to feel about the same. Right?

Carbon monoxide poisoning from a vehicle is not always painless. Sometimes intense headaches and nausea occur.

Well, you can die by hanging from two ways. You break your neck or you asphyxiate. Breaking your neck would be instantaneous. Asphyxiation would have at least a minute of struggling.

How the fuck do I know about all of this shit? I think it's because I used to go to www.rotten.com all of the time.

Yeah, you know. That would make a lot of sense. I would want to destroy my brain as totally as possible. Because if it is intact when the body dies, I'm pretty sure we retain some degree of consciousness. It would be terrible to be a brain in a dead body...parts of your mind begin to slip. You become less and less. I imagine it would be terrifying.
