They are not.

I am not nihilistic but I am without hope.  Were I able to get the medical care I need my outlook on life would drastically improve (as, you know, I might actually be able to enjoy life).  A nihilist wouldn't give a shit about medical care because hey, life is meaningless anyway, right?

I nihilist might give a shit but they'd know that ultimately they can't put meaning on it except subjectively.

Yeah.. There is absolutely no pain or emotional stress that is unbearable. Either one of those will not kill you. Taking the easy way out, that's all it is.

I'm glad that your life is worth living.  Mine isn't.  I've got chronic physical and mental problems that will never get treated because I can't afford health insurance, and both cause me chronic pain (lets see how much you love life when wiping your own ass is a struggle against pain).  I've been unemployed for 5 years and have no useful job skills, and wouldn't be able to use them if I did due to the aforementioned physical/mental problems.  I have no friends and no close family.  The relatives I'm living with don't know what to do with me, so they've decided that pretending I don't exist is the best way to handle things.  My entire existence is a 10x13 bedroom that may as well be a prison cell.  I often go days without eating or drinking because getting food or drink often isn't worth the pain the effort will entail (not to mention the disapproving stares/comments of my relatives), and yet I'm grossly overweight (I love the fucking irony of that.  I eat less than most household pets but I'm fatter than most of America).  When I kill myself, the only way my relatives will know about it is when my body starts to smell.  And here's the beauty of the situation - one of the relatives I live with works in the mental health field treating people like me that wind up in the ER.  So it's probably safe to say they have a clue what my deal is but don't give a shit and are hoping I'll just go away.

So from where I'm sitting, suicide will be a blissful end to the suffering that has been my life (and the suffering my life has caused others).  After all that I've been through, I am honestly confused when a well informed adult would question another's right to make a cognitive decision to stop living.

I am sorry but I have the exact same issues that you are talking about. I am not going to talk bad to you about having these problems but seriously there are definitely ways to get it treated. There are plenty of places that will help you without health care. There are plenty of things you can do on your own without health care as well.

I can barely walk, I am in chronic pain all the time. I have emotional problems that the vast majority of people in the world will never understand or experience.

I am not trying to one up anyone, that isn't what I am trying to do. I am saying that people deal with the same issues as you, if not worse and deal with it.

I have a lot more to say but I don't want to get into flaming people that are already suffering so I will leave it at that.

A lot of countries have healthcare for people that are disabled... If you live in one of those then I don't know what your excuse is.

There is inherently nothing wrong with taking the easy way out.  If you've got nothing to live for, have had nothing to live for for years, have no true relationships in your life, what's wrong with it?  Those who have gone through with it in the past are good in my book.  It was their life to do what they would with, they just made a life decision that conflicts with your current belief system.  Some belief systems put no such importance on human lives and just simply see things differently than you do.  Respect people's decisions, and the dead.  Guilt tripping people into staying alive is just that.  Many things in life kill us, and sometimes it's ourselves.  It's the way she goes.  Accept it.

Im sorry but this is wrong and misunderstanding.  None of our experiences are exactly the same.  We all have different personal histories, some of which you would be a fool to believe you could fathom.

No offense, but you don't know shit about me.  "Not to talk bad about me?"  When you have to preface something with that, then you know you're about to talk bad about me.  So spare me the faux-civility.

You're better at suffering than I am.  That must make you so proud...  That you're such a trooper you can just take all kinds of pain and ask for more (even going so far as to call me out for not being the Man that you are because I actually want to end my pain).  Hats off to ya, bro.

And yeah, you are trying to one-up me.  That was the whole point of your post.  "See, I'm suffering physically and emotionally every day and I don't want to kill myself..."  Like I said, hats off to you.  If you want the Internet Suffering Award, you can have it.

I live in America.  Here in the US if you don't have health insurance or lots of cash, you don't get non-critical medical treatment.  I have neither insurance or money.  I'm also not technically disabled, as that requires me to get medical tests, which I cannot afford (I haven't been to a doctor in around 10 years).

I've had chronic worsening back pain (with associated depression/anxiety) since I was 17.  I'm mid-40's now.  I haven't worked for 5+ years.  Adding to the chronic back issue are the myriad of other health problems that develop over a lifetime of little/no physical activity (due to aforementioned back issue).  As I'm not receiving any government aid I'm on no roles, lists or statistics.  Effectively, I have dropped out of the system.  Naturally, I wasn't able to pay off any debts, so I'm a toxic risk for creditors and anyone that checks my credit score (which many seemingly-unrelated entities do, including most/all employers) will give me a wide berth.  I'm also effectively homeless, as I live with relatives and pay no rent (because I can't afford to).  I have no say over my living conditions and could be thrown out on the street never, or tomorrow (there's that anxiety again).

Basically, if I had money I could get treatment and maybe enjoy the last few years of my life.  But I can't get money without treatment.  And around we go.

And yeah, there are free/deeply-discounted clinics.  But they don't offer the kind of care that will treat my chronic back pain, not to mention my now-severe mental issues.  You do actually get what you pay for, occasionally.

Do yourself a favor and don't ever assume that you know what it's like to be someone else.  You don't, and neither do I.

I apologize I was not being tactful at all.

Really even though I know I sounded harsh I was trying to point out that it is certainly possible to live a half-way decent life while suffering. I understand that I don't know exactly what you have been through, that is obvious. I was going by what you were saying your problems were. For instance, I can hardly walk,  I can barely wipe my own ass. I have dealt with traumas that hardly anyone can relate to or understand. I am weak minded, and yet I still push through it.

I didn't assume anything about you. I was going off what you said you were suffering from. How am I not going to infer something from that?

Again I apologize. I really wasn't trying to bash you by any means.. I just find it difficult to explain to people that feel they have no reason to live but yet are suffering from things that are "somewhat" similar, that there are ways to deal with it and get better, or at least learn to cope with it.

Also you have a very good point, you do certainly get what you pay for, that is very true.

I know I have said it multiple times but again I truly am sorry. I know I was being overly harsh and made it out that I knew exactly what you were going through. I only meant to say I am going through both the mental and physical issues that seem very similar to what you are dealing with.

It just upsets me when people sound like they don't even want to try to live, or have given up on themselves. It's sad, unfortunately I am not very good at dealing with that emotion as I have been running from it for a very long time.

I find it amusing that you lecture me for assuming things and then you turn around and do the same thing. I wasn't trying to one-up you at all, I don't give a shit how anyone looks at me, I am actually really really weak.. I was trying to say it is possible to deal with really heavy issues and be alright. Like I said, I just wanted people to see perhaps that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I just wasn't able to express myself properly.

Please don't take what I said in my previous message to heart. If you need to talk to anyone about the issues you are facing (If you ever feel like it), feel free to message me. I don't wish anything bad on anybody, to the contrary I really want to see everyone that sounds like they have given up come out of the situations they are in.

How are you not "technically" disabled if you can hardly walk? I don't understand the medical situations in the U.S. very much. How is your medical situation going to change now with the health law taking effect?

No. I won't accept it, that is how I feel. There is something wrong with taking your own life (at least in my eyes) Nothing anyone can say will change that.

I understand people not wanting to live and after the fact I will certainly not talk bad about them. However that still won't change the fact that I will take whatever means necessary to try and talk them out of it.

I feel taking your own life is wrong and although I feel that way that doesn't mean I will slander someone who does... it does however mean that I feel so strongly that way, that not only do I not want to see anyone else do that, but I also don't want anyone to stop living. I don't want anyone to lose their lives, ESPECIALLY by their own hands.

Like I said I won't sit here and say that guy was piece of crap he took his own life and this that and the other. I won't do that. I will however do anything in my power to try and talk them out of it. Unfortunately I went about it horribly in my previous post.

Why is taking your life wrong?

With the current state of humanity headed the way that it is, it is easily arguable that suicide is beneficial to the human race as a whole. And that a person killing themself could be seen as a personal sacrifice for humans as a whole.

Self enforced eugenics in a way.

Honestly I don't have an answer for your question. Maybe the way I was raised, perhaps? Or maybe I am just going off how I feel in my heart. Like I said, I really don't know. That is just the way I feel and I see no reason to look at it differently nor do I want to.

No, I'm not suicidal. Here's why I was asking about the common household items.

I was envisioning a scenario where some kind of Gestapo or secret police were knocking on your door/looking to seize you and commit absolutely terrible acts of torture on you. Such as smashing your testicles with bricks or slicing off your eyelids and putting cigarettes out on your eyes. Room 101 stuff.

I've been watching too much of Alex Jones' stuff. About America becoming a Police State, etc.

So, my thought was, if you knew it was coming and wanted to end it in a gentler way (because you know it will end soon either way, but terribly painfully with the guards) what could you grab in an average household and do the deed?

And also, about it being a coward's way out...I guess I don't know who I would be trying to impress by not being a "coward"? John Wayne? I mean, I think those who don't fight a bear and win at least once in their life are "cowards."

z

Excuse me but Room 101 isn't about gruesome tortures.

I wouldn't enjoy any of that and it'd all be horrific, but I don't have an innate fear of them like I do with arachnids.  They're gruesome yeah but they don't command the mind like a phobia.  Room 101 is about control through fear not through pain.

In light of that, I vote suicide by Spider.

Room 101 is where they force you to confront your greatest fears.

I've been thinking a lot about the way I want to exit.
I mean if I could press a button right now, that will instantly kill me.. then I would but the suicide options we have in this modern day are still not quite that pleasant.

I think the most popular way to painlessly commit suicide is with an exit bag. It's some kind of oxygen you breath in, fall asleep within 10 secs and never wake up. But I think even though it's painless it has to be some really scary 10 seconds and that's not counting the time from when you've sealed the mask to your head so that you can't get out of it again.. because if you don't do that then chances are that you will rip the mask off before you dose off.

Head decapitation.. I've read that you're alive for at least 10 seconds after head is off so it's probably not so nice either.. probably worse than using an exit bag.

I've started to think that maybe that best way to do it is with a shotgun inside your mouth pointed upwards.. It would be impossible to miss the part of the brain that you need to blow up.. the shotgun would make it look like you had a grenade in your mouth except it only blows everything off to the upside while a grenade blows your lower head off including the jaw and throat away as well which in unessacary.

What do you think? Shotgun the best?
Sure it makes a mess but at least with a shotgun it's truly instant, no pain and no discomfort of being trapped and waiting to die.. you control your fate until the moment you pull the trigger.. can back out at any moment.

Possible, but I would worry you'd be completely miserable beforehand. Puking and what not.

On the other hand, I knew a guy who went to sleep and rolled over on his patch. Never woke up. Seems like a legit way to go.
