Picking "Clumps" of Fruits
    #512117 - 01/06/02 01:30 PM (22 years, 3 months ago)

hey folks-

what do you do if you've got a number of fruits growing from the same spot and some are mature and some aren't? i know if i pluck the big ones, they'll all pull right off.

what do you guys generally do? just pick the whole clump?

thanks! take care . . .

If the surrounding fruits look like they have potential to be real nice, then I hold off on picking the one big one. Most of the time though the ones surrounding a large fruit are pretty inferior in size, so I just pick the whole clump.

Those little guys are not going to get much bigger. When the biggest ones are ready, they pretty well all are. The little ones are abhorts and will remain so unless they are actually a 2nd flush coming in.

captainmax - so you're saying the fruits on the other side of the cake aren't going to grow any more? i didn't realize cakes ran in 'flushes' - i thought that was reserved for casings.

that blows 'cause i thought the rest would continue to mature.

thanks for the info. take care!
