Red Devil Lye Discontinued

After many days of searching for Red Devil Lye I gave up. Now I know why I cant find it, it's been discontinued.

I found xylene quite easily at Home Depot, it was right next to the toluene. Sorry for the bad news everyone. Apparently the Red Devil company discontinued it because it was not a strong seller, not to mention its uses in making methamphetamine and alkaloid extractions. Sooo... my search continues for a brand of 100% lye. My last resort will be the internet.

Anyways I just thought I'd inform you all, if you didn't know already.

From what I've been reading, it says that watever is left on the shelves is the last of it. Also www.thenook.org has a post in the Ionic Virtual Laboratory. The maker of RDL is Reckitt-Benckiser, you can call/write to them to confirm this if you want. Here is the company information:

I too have had trouble finding lye for making some soap.

People are selling it on eBay. But locally I've tried some hardware stores to no avail.

I've come up with a few new sources for a 100% lye product. Look for Roebic Heavy Duty Crystal Drain Opener, which can be found at Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart. Or you can order directly from the companies website:

Thanks Konnrade. I think I will order from Lowes, since they sell it to you without a Hazmat waiver form. That's a great site none the less, quite alot of chemicals for sale there.

Instead of red devil lye you can buy sodium hydroxide pure on eBay. That is all red devil lye is, sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is very basic, the opposite of hydrocholoric acid which is a strong acid.
