We Saw the King Tut Exhibit Today
    #5091150 -

Silly me...I thought the Cairo Museum would actually move this sarcophagus around the world!  D'Oh!
Glad we only bought the $25 tickets, and we did see some cool ancient magical artifacts. When a precocious little boy started chatting with us, and I mentioned magic, he asked me if magic was real. I winked and nodded yes. I wonder how his Mom will respond if he tells her of the long-haired guy who gestured in the affirmative. Maybe he'll become the Aleister Crowley or McGregor Mathers of the 21st century. Maybe he'll forget about it tomorrow.

A wondrous achievement if it happens.

I have always been drawn to the ancient Egyptian culture.  Some of my earliest essays, written in elementary school, were about King Tut or ancient Egypt.  It is an amazing, and sometimes frightening, history.

I still watch all documentaries on tv and read every book related to ancient Egypt. King Tut has always been on my imaginary ... man, i'd love to visit such exhibit ! That would be magic

Now, on a historical side note. It seems Howard Carter was helped by a mysterious character to find Tut's tomb.... a spy

You know they could have at least brought the death mask here so we could see it. Is it worth going to Markos? Because Im considering going.

I went to the original U.S. tour with the famous mask and it was incredible! With or without the mask you should go and take young people with you if possible.

Well, we took a 22 year old female (my Lady's daughter). Couldn't find any younger ones around

My son is looking forward to going exhibit when it is in Chicago. Inspired by a form of magic you might say, he fully intends to move to Egypt in the future... however his plans must to wait until he is a wee older than nine.

Contemplating the craftsmanship that went into the making of the sarcophagus [sarc=flesh, phagus=eating] that I did see, I wondered about the placement of the images of Thoth-Tehuti and Isis-Auset on the container - were they esoterically significant or merely stylistic. When gazing at Tut's Crook and Flail (I never saw these things in anything but pictures), I wondered about their construction. I was into ceremonial magick in my youth and created my own magickal implements. I imagined a connection between the mage who produced Tut's implements according to some formula he had, and the same mental process I had going when I was constructing physical objects meant to embody a 'principle' or an 'idea.' The flail and crook, for example, symbolized power and dominion. The crook looks like a sawed-off gold and turquoise candy cane - a shephard's crook like the often seen Christ as Good Shephard or Christmas shephard representations. Some statues held additional wands or scepters. There was a funery statue, female, with a pretty face and a nice body. My Lady knew I'd appreciated that (we have a couple of curvaceous mermaids for example - my "dollies" she says). I know that the same sentiments plus some metaphysical concerns accompanied whomever made or possessed that sexy little statue! This is what art is really all about - contemplation.

That mask is wicked stuff...
Probably in every sense of the word... Power, gold, pain, domination...
I can't imagine the empire, the huge and vast empire of Egypt, and it boggles me.
That place was so corrupt.
The whole ancient world was so corrupt.
And so empty, and so GOOD AT THE SAME TIME.
It's good that you posted this thanks MArkos
I like to think back as where I would have been, on the streets outside of the pyramid, while the kings men tortured and killed a tomb robber, a blind man scraped up crumbs, and I, squire, walked like a lion through the grove of growing human domination... the quest for my own eternal afterlife, the hope that someone built me a grave.
