8 1/2 (french i think) is really trippy, but really long. watch it without the subtitles. most of tim burtons stuff (james and the giant peach, nightmare before christmas, charlie and the chocolate factore) anything michel gondry (eternal sunshine, and he has a music videos dvd that is quite spectacular) while its not trippy, blazing saddles is hilarious the cell i never liked waking life because they talk too much, dont want to concentrate that much fear and loathing if you dont think itll give you a bad trip (it would for me, thats why i dont watch it while tripping)
thats all i can think of off the top of my head

I'm a big fan of The Life Aquatic, it's just got a fun and wacky atmosphere about it that always cheers me up. The music is quite trippy, the special effects are very unique (with very brightly colored impossible looking creatures, I mean if I could describe them in one word it'd be trippy) and crudely done. They're crudely done, but that's the whole point, it's not like they tried to make them look as real as possible on a tiny budget, they're supposed to look like they do. And the characters are great (the characters are what the movie is about really). Some people won't like it, but it's one of my favorite movies.
Transambient 2 is also great, mixing trippy trance music to real video clips looped and edited to flow with the music. Things you'll see include fireworks exploding backwards and forwards, out of focus fireworks (which look pretty damn cool), clouds rolling over eachother in fast motion (it looks like a sea of clouds bubbling over a river), driving through towns and countryside in England in fast motion, following train tracks from a camera mounted on a train, gorgeous sunrises in fast motion and all kinds of water shoots, all mixed seamlessly to the beat and flow of the music. I wish I could show what it's like, because words don't compare.

Me, my wife, and my step-mother watched this movie while tripping. My step-mother said that the animation didn't stop at the screen, but continued on in all directions past the television.
At the time, I kept thinking I was pissing myself, so unfortunately I didn't enjoy it that much.

2001: A Space Odyssey - Great soundtrack, not too much you need to pay attention to to be able to enjoy, but still "deep" at the same time. And it gets pretty "deep". It's sort of boring though. Put it on and find distractions for the boring parts.

wow that sucks you pissed yourself.
yes space odyssey, my personal opinion, most stanley kubrick movies are pretty trippy in the sense they can make you think, Dr. Strange love would be a nice one too...
Also, has anyone seen the robin williams movie, "What Dreams may come?" i thinkthats wot its called, its a serious movie too, trippy but kinda trippy like the wall trippy

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is fucking ridiculous while tripping. The sound track is amazing and the movie has so much in the way of entertaining fight scenes. The story is insanely great too, as anyone who has played a Final Fantasy game should know. It's not out yet in the US but it's easy to find torrents for it...

Waiting For Gadot----------a Samuel Beckett play made into a movie. Its a great(and VERY trippy) movie. Trippier than most but without the intention(thats just the kind of art he makes)Like Dali when he said "take me, I am the hallucinogen". If you dont know Samuel, you need to know!

The band members say it was not at all intentional(Its an amazing album by its self and I doubt they changed a single word or key change based on the movie OZ). Its pretty fucking cool though, and synchronistic as can be without intention. Thats a good recommendation still. I always heard you start the album on the third lions roar. Its possibly the best place to start the synchronicity, even lyrically.

no prob, I realize Speilberg and Hanks sucking is old news, but if people were really looking for "trippy movies", this would be a poor thread to choose. The first bunch of posts were predictable repeats of 800 previous posts.
people surfing for "trippy movies" would have more success using the search function than reading this thread.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned any fluffy disney movies yet, other than fern gully. for some reason I don't think fern gully was disney though? what about FANTASIA?! jeez. I haven't seen the more recent, updated version, but I bet that one's pretty awesome too. whales and stuff. robbin hood. the little mermaid. aladdin. I really like anything with animals talking and stuff. weird things that shouldn't happen or exist.
the life aquatic was definetly a good suggestion too. rushmore would be good if for nothing but the music, and random labeling of objects within the movie. and the royal tenenbaums. mmm. there's lots. I could prattle forever.

these are the movies you must watch while tripping.
for a very fun trip with unbearable laughter - Freddy got fingered it just does not make any sence at all
For a bit of a mind fuck- being john malkovich ( i prefer this over endless sunshine or watever its called)
For a trip that will freak you out really bad try and get your hands on one of the cremaster cycle movies they will boggle your mind ( may cause a bad trip )

"Requiem for a dream" The trippiest movie next to the wall. "Touching the void" Amazing story of survival with some sweet climbing footage. (Might appeal to myself and fellow climbers a bit more then average trippers though.)

while i agree with you on the tom hanks part, you need to watch THX 1138

I've seen THX 1138, and while I agree that THX 1138 is actually a trippy movie, I'm not sure what Tom Hanks or Spielberg have to do with it.

Well I like fear and loathing... I kinda liked trainspotting but when the baby died....I was on 6g at the time... That put me threw a loop let me tell you. Hated that movie after and wont watch it again. I just thought that Incubaby would dislike it for the same reason I thought he dislikes Requiem. I would imagine something to do with an inaccurate portrayal of what dealing with heroin is like.
Oh ya and the baby crawling on the roof spinning it's head. boo spinning head baby.

I myself and pretty much all my friends enjoy the film. Johnny Depp's great in it, and it is very well shot--visually appealing. (Soundtrack also isn't too shabby.) It's unlike any other movie I've seen, but then again I can't think of a "stereotype" for drug movies. From the very beginning to the end, the overall message/plot outline is: "Aaaaahhhh we're on drugs!! Ahhhhhh!!!" --->(and I don't mean that in a bad way. )
I suppose my all-time favorite would have to be 2001: A Space Odyssey. The dialogue is sparse, the tone is largely subdued (kind of the opposite of Fear and Loathing), but it's a brilliant movie if you're in for a crazy sci-fi epic of sorts.

i disliked requiem becuase it was stupid, thats all, i couldnt find any plot to follow, it just jumped around and there was some old lady on speed whos son kept pawning her tv.... oddly enough ive never seen trainspotting, but from what ive heard, i dont think i would like it... i have no time for stereotypes and innacuracies, i mean, if were being fictional were being fictional, but ive heard about the baby dying... i dunno man, i just dunno
Fear and Loathing, however, excellent fucking movie, EXCELLENT, good book too, though they are almost word for word....
QUICK MAN! WHAT ABOUT THE FUCKING GOLF SHOES!

Trainspotting is an excellent film! Very witty... you can't afford to not give it a chance just because a baby dies in the story line!! Its not like you see a baby getting slaughtered or anything it's just like a 20 second scene where they find out the baby has died in its sleep. Miss it and you really are missing out! Still wouldn't fancy watching it under the influence of psychedelics though...

Also, just remembered Akira. That movie is so fucking cool. Even though it's an older anime, the animation is still sick and I find the plot fascinating.

I was going through my DVD's and found another one, haven't watched it while tripping yet but I imagine it might be really cool. It's called Lola Rennt (or Run, Lola, Run), the only downside is the movie is in German with english subtitles. Not a problem for me since I speak German but it might be hard to keep up with the text.
It stars Franka Potente with smoking hot red hair, her boyfriend loses 100,000 DM that he's supposed to deliver to his mob boss and Lola needs to replace it in 20 minutes or her boyfriend will likely be killed. The movie plays through the same 20 minutes 3 times, each time Lola has a slightly different attitude to the problem and as a result of things she does just a little differently everything plays out differently each time. Very cool techno soundtrack too.
