Increasingly Antisocial
    #5016048 -

I don't know how I got to this point, but I'm pretty damn sick of it.  I'm not what you would call "Antisocial" in the personality disorder clinical sense, but I didn't know what else to call it.

I've never been much for social events,  but now I don't even go to any parties or hang out with with friends anymore.  I'd rather just not go anywhere.  I'm just tired of listening to people, tired of having the same conversations, tired of it all.  This is becoming a huge problem, especially in my sex life (Or the lack-there-of that it is becoming.)  I can't even bring myself to talk to women anymore.  It's pretty sad and I don't like myself for it.  I think I may actually have contempt for them!  What the fuck is going on?

This also is related to my fear of rejection, but I'll just stick to my antisocial problem in this thread.

ANYWAY, what should I do?  Anything at all would be great.

Maybe refer to it as unsocial instead? That's what I call it, myself. I don't "want to be alone" so much as I just "don't need to socialize". Note that I wasn't always this way - when I was younger I felt a need to be around other people. From what I can tell, this kind of thing commonly begins in the early 20's (I'm almost 25). How old are you?

However I am perfectly fine with my near-hermit status

If you aren't, then you certainly need to do something about it.

I don't think I can drink this away, but there's no harm in trying.

I'm a wee lad of 20. Yeah, I don't like being this way at all. I want people around, but I just push them away. It's one weird spiral man.

As hard as this may be to do, I think the thing that will help you the most is in finding the right kind of people to hang around with.

I could care less about being around most people. Every once in a while I am delighted to find someone who I still actually want to hang out with. Having those people around makes ALL the difference between being unsocial or not.

Maybe you just need the right people to hang out with, eh?

It's pretty sad and I don't like myself for it.

An attitude like that will really only compound the problem. As trendal said there really isn't anything wrong with sticking to yourself for a while, or even your entire life. But if you don't want to be that way, then there's no point in doing so.

It sounds like you would much rather be more social with friends and women, so I'd suggest just forcing yourself to do that, unless you end up deciding that you're cool with keeping to yourself.

Either way, just don't beat yourself up for being a certain way as that is very self-defeating behavior and will do absolutely no good.

For me, I've found my social life to go in cycles: sometimes I'll be outgoing and want to hang out with lots of people, othertimes I'll be quiet and introspective and want nothing more than a quiet day at home to relax and contemplate things. Either way I just go with the flow.

Agree 100%. Although I think alcohol is the answer for most things... so.

Don't feel the need to be around people.  Like Trendal said, find a small group of people that you have the same interests in.  That's what I do.  I have a small group of friends that I work with and that I hangout with after work and thats it.  And that's fine with me.  We go to the bar once in awhile and meet others there, but its not a big deal at all.

Wait until you're 21 and then go to the bar, get a few drinks in ya, play some pool and flirt with the ladies, not a big deal at all.  Seems to me like you're putting to much pressure on yourself to actually socialize.  Don't do that.   Be comfortable with who you are and you'll be comfortable around anybody.
