rates of growth
    #501513 - 12/26/01 10:48 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

A novice question for anyone who wants to field it:
I have some that have just begun to pin, and some that are full grown, some with veils that have broken from the stem as they should at maturity. My question is: since the full grown ones are overshadowing the small just-pinned-ones, should I pick them now, or let them grow as much as they can?Would i be helping contamination by opening the tank in order to harvest? i worry about the little guys, because they are the future.

Hey smurf........try and intiate pinning at the same time, so you do not have that problem in the future. Look up deep scratching, that should help your myc. build together and allow for an even pinning process. Since they have pinned and matured, the mycel. is strong enough to fight off contams from just simply opening your terrenium.

Pick them as soon as the veil breaks........letting them grow longer will do nothing but hurt them.Yes, they are our future.
