On Lemon Juice (and why it doesn't work)

Alright, so a few months back I dosed 2.25 grams of some very potent poo grown cubes, along with a friend who took the same amount of the same batch. Since I was splitting the dose, and not munching down the entire thing I thought this would present the perfect opppurtunity to field test the lemon juice method of ingestion. Each dose was measured out perfectly, powdered, and mixed with about 4oz of pure fresh squeezed lemon juice, then allowed to sit for about 15 minutes. We then downed the mix (not nearly as bad tasting as I thought it'd be) and waited for the effects. But something strange happened to me...


Nothing. At all.

The first time I tripped it was off of chewing about 1.7 grams, and that time I had a much more pronounced effect than this experience. The shrooms were definitely not bunk, since after I smoked a bowl the trip kicked into a POWERFUL euphoric high, but I never experienced anything close to the insane effects that others on the board describe. Usually when I smoke a bowl at the peak of a trip like I did then I'm catapaulted into the fifth dimension, but this time it only served to kickstart my trip and gave me about 90 minutes of grins before leaving me feeling flat and tired.

I've posted this experience other places before, but it's always been in another thread as an aside and so wasn't really given much attention. I don't want to go so far as call bullshit on all the people who swear by it now, especially after repeated tries, but I have never before or since felt that little from ANY dose before. Big or small. Did I do something wrong? Or is it just that the lemon juice tek doesn't work for everybody?

Oh, and the friend who dosed with me reported a good trip, but IMO nothing that simply powdering the shrooms and drinking them down couldn't account for.

Questions/comments/rampaging mobs appreciated.

When was the last time you dosed before taking the lemon juice method?
Are you on any medications at all SSRI/MAOI's the like?

When did you eat before taking this mushrooms?

Before anyone can make a good guess to why that happened too you, these former questions should be answered.

Also just drug use in general....

Probably about 2 months or so. I'm not on any meds at all. I ate a few bites of leftover stuffing 2 hours prior to ingestion. What I ate wouldn't account for nullifying the effects like that. I had maybe 5 full forkfuls.

Edit: meant to include that in the original post, but DAMN I'm tired. Been working all week, and got another two to go before I can take anything resembling a break. Apologies, I'm just not on the ball today.

I don't see how this means lemon juice doesn't work. Maybe it didn't work for you, but I've read a lot more positive responses regarding this method rather than negative.

That is shitty though. It's no fun expecting and being prepared to trip out, only to wait... and wait.... and wait.... and eventually feel a little bummed when nothing happens.

Was the stuff in the turkey while it was cooked? It seems quite odd, but if so there could a an element of trytophan coming into play.

Maybe I am just blowing smoke up your ass; but I don't know... Seems like it was more a mental problem than anything. Sort of like in the instances where it doesn't matter how much alcohol you consume but seemingly your not getting drunk.

Was there a large amount of stress in your life at that time? When I get extremely stressed, certain depressents don't seem to have the effect that I assume they should.

But needless to say, since your friend got off on the dose, I would say to attempt the lemon test again, and perhaps you will have different results.

Thats just my take on it.

Also did you have some major event going in your life at the time? Moving to College, Moving, Death, New Relationship, Ending Relationship... Any of these could explain a stress related life situation that could have had detirmental effects on your trip?

Or even just fighting with family/friends/wife/girlfriend?

I know I seem to be going over the top of this one, but the lemon juice tek has never removed the complete effects of it from anyone that I have read before. The chemical is still getting into your body, and being metabolized.
Did you mix anything else with it? Had you taken a Xanax or Valium that day? This just seemes like the shrooms are kosher, and the tek while possibly being placebo shouldn't destory the psilocybin or psilocin.

Sorry for the rambling, I am just sorta buzzing off some vodka and have thoughts racing from way too many cigarettes.

Well, my take on this... You had bad luck, and shit happens.  Do it again, but this time don't eat 4hrs b4, do 2.5g and leave it in there for like a half hour...

Russian: You just answered the ancient Chinese riddle for me, "What is the sound of one hand slapping a forehead?" I think my stress load was the problem. I have never taken an SSRI like Xanax or anything like that, and I REALLY didn't have that much stuffing (was Stove Top stuffing for anyone who's interested... all none of you.) But my workload at the time (and today) was absolute INSANITY. I didn't think that was my problem the first time I read what you wrote, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Hell, I haven't even been able to sleep lately because of work-related stress! I was feeling really good at the time, but I had/have a lot of shit on my plate, and was probably too subconsciously hung up on that to really let go and get into the trip to my satisfaction.

Whatever stress I was under though, it seems weird that it would kill my trip to the degree that it did with the dose I took. Does anyone else have anecdotal evidence of someone not tripping on a dose that should've sent them out of this world? If it really was my ego worrying about shit and getting in the way, it can't be that unique of a problem, can it?

Xanax isn't an SSRI. Some anti depreesants such as Lexapro or Zoloft are
SSRIs.

Yeah, thats more than likely the reason.

Stress has never affected my tripping, but it has played a role with various weed and alcohol times.
And thats certianly not limited to myself, my friend has had times where college stress largely has kept him from getting "high".
There have been times were family related stresses have made getting tipsy not an option at all. The euphoric elements of alcohol were completely gone, and the only time I could note its effects is when I simply became drunk.

Normally, I am very sensitive to small amounts of alcohol not that I am drunk off of a single shot. But, I don't inherientaly like getting shitfaced, and merely like to feel a little less inhibited and happy.

For any trip to be good, having your life in order helps keep your mind in order. Even if you have a stressful life, there are things you can do in order to insure a better trip.
I would reccomend the next time that you trip, to plan it for a saturday. And before you drop the Shrooms, whatever way you plan to do so tea/chew/peanut butter sandwhich/lemon tek. Spend the morning cleaning your apartment/dorm room/house.

Mentally while you perform this seemingly simple action, you'll also clean up your mind. Set and Setting is more than being in a comfortable enviroment, its also about being in a prepared enviroment.

Also if possible, work out that morning... Anything to alliveate the stress thats in your life. Get a back massage, or spend the morning with your significant other getting some delights of the carnal variaty.

IMO these, not just the tek will insure a much more intense trip. I know I sound like I am going off on a more spiritual/yoga like approach to mushrooms. But its about getting your stress's down before a trip. Also if your not stressed, coming up will be less of an issue.

Oh, and if it feels any better... If you partake in writing a journal or something of the sort, just let everything out that morning or a couple days before.

Bad trips feed off of bad memories, bad thought lines and stressful lives. Tripping for just the hell of in while in college can be a bad idea, since college life is inherantely stressful.
Also, if weed is your bad, after cleaning your house... Have a bowl and relax!

Why do people talk about amazing trips while vacationing on some tropical island? Its not only just the location, its the simple fact that their stress levels are at an all time low.

Just some food for thought.

the lemon juice didnt work for me just gave me stomache pains, and they werent from the shrooms it was the juice

Hmm, obviously I don't have the answers for everyone.

Do spicy foods bother you?
You might have a peptic ulcer, and a high level of citric acid isn't going to help that. Otherwise I would just say that you have a sensitive stomach.

i would sugest that you retry the experiment and let the mushrooms sit in the juice longer. maybe 2-3 hours or even over night. try that and see what happens. oh and do the other stuff you usually do like not eating and such.

The lemon juice plus 2.5 grams from a familiar batch seemed to work for me. I tripped far more intensely and the trip seemed to last much longer than usual. Although, the nausea was a bit worse and heartburn was a factor, all that went away when I started coming up. Dunno why it didn't work for ya. Try it again on an empty stomach and see what happens.
