but can it help the effects of shrooms??????

does 2.5 grams on an empty stomach with grapefruit juice sound like a plan??????? :smirk:

what exactly are you trying to achieve? If your trying to trip harder it will only work if you want it to. Its a placebo effect just like when people say if you take vitamin C it will boost your trip.

Grapefruit juice DOES inhance MANY different drugs!!

I just want to know if shrooms are one of those

Hmm I dont know I've never heard such a thing about grapefruit boosting effects of drugs. So my opinion is sticking to placebo till others can confirm this.

yeah it's defentaly not placebo grapefruit juice acts as a mild maoi and will sorta potientate shrooms and alot of other things, best to stay away from amphetamines with maoi's though. i would suggest syrian rue if you want something to really potentiate a mushroom trip it's a magicly synergetic combo and rue is cheap as hell and i recommend doing a simple extraction of the harmala salts (vinegar/salt method on erowid) for no nausea :thumbup: grapefruit juice will help a little but not much.

and I have done syrian rue a couple of times, but when I do that I change my (soy rich) diet for a couple of days, I just wanted to mix up the shrooms and juice and not have to worry about having  soy milk etc etc(everything has soy these days!!)later.


I think this shit would be better with some poppies(I hear) but I am about to drink a full glass of juice with 2.5 grams of shrooms, I will let you knwo how it goes. :smirk:

i've drunk orange juice and grapefruit juice on amphetamines alot before. i assume we're talking about vitamin c as being the mild maoi in grapefruit. if it is, it''s a very very mild one.

There is no scientific evidence anywhere in the published literature to support the urban legend that grapefruit juice enhances mushrooms or any other drug.

Amernican Indians sometimes use the juice to kill the bad taste of chewing peyote buttons and thats about as far as it goes.

The aztecs serve the mushrooms with chocolate and /or honey. and they never stored shrooms in honey. IT breeds bugs.

And furthermore, why is it called grapefruit. It has nothing to do with grapes, does not grow on vines and is not purple.

I use ruby red to kill the taste of mushrooms and I haven't noticed a difference in the trip at all.

This is incorrect. There have been several published scientific studies that show a direct relationship between the effects of some classes of drugs and grapefruit juice. The studies that I have read focus mainly on opiates. As far as I know, there is no research with regards to mushrooms and grapefruit juice and would be surprised if anything causal was found.

Well, I have no scientific data, but have been told the reason for grapefruit juice, oj, vitamin c, etc. is not necessarily for an enhanced trip, but for a quicker onset. Vitamin C is absorbed very quickly into the body. Therefore, the theory behind this is if you digest vitamin c with the drug then the drug will be absorbed quicker as well.

I usually drink orange juice when I eat my shrooms, but next time I think I'll just drink grapfruit juice and see how it goes. I'm pretty tired of orange juice anyway.

the thing with grapefruit juice inhancing drugs has nothing to do with vitamin c

the thing vitamin c is susposed to help make the trip kick in quicker is absorbic acid which helps the alkaloids get absorbed quicker like if your making a tea and you put some absorbic acid it will aid in extracting the alkaloids into the water but your stomach already has enough more potent acids in it that i don't think it would really make a diffrence, stuff that neutralizes the acids in your stomach like milk will effect absorbation rates negativly though.

hmmm...
milk has lotsa protein (esp rich in the amino acid tryptophan); it is possible that trhis amino acid may compete with the structurally similar psilocin at some receptor sites, thus somewhat inhibiting absorption/psychedelic activity...
vitamin C - well, since vitamin C is a fairly good free-radical quencher, it is possible that doing up vitamin C while tripping helps to eliminate free-radicals molecules (& thus making the trip fell "cleaner")...
as to things which may help absorption - some drugs exhibit increased bio-availablity when taken with black pepper, or with ginger, or cayenne pepper... something to consider...
& of course, other plants & drugs may alter absorption, metabolism, CNS effects, etc... (MAOIs, SSRIs, uppers, downers, whatever...)

gee it's too bad study of psychedelics has been marginalized since the 60s (lyndon & tricky dick, too, for sure...)(if JFK hadn't been blown away in '63 ---> well, jack & bobby prolly both did pot & tripstuff, do ya think they would have been nearly as "anti" as LBJ & RMN ???)

The Aztecs always served their shrooms to visiting dignitaries with chocolate and honey drinks. Why , we do not know, but i myself have, for thirty years always eaten my shrooms with chocolate mild and I get off perfectly fine. Also, one should take up to 15 minutes or more to eat a dose, as the Indians do. I image that since they have been eating them that way for more than 3 millenia that there must be a reason for that.

And getting off faster is not what the high is about. When eaten slow over a period of time, the come on comes on in waves and ripples and peaks slowly and the high is smoother for the CNS and makes the trip more comfortable with out any anxiety or panic attacks often associated with tea or eating them fast to get them down in order to allievate the sometimes nauseating gagging associated with their consumption.

Anyway, I know people will want to do them any way they like so go ahead.

When I get my script of valium my doc allways tells me not to drink grapefruit juice as it will make the valium that normally last 4 hours will last 6 hours now this is from a pharmasist and he stresses this and I have no clue if it effects mushrooms but I know for a fact it does have an effect on valium

Grapefruit juice will affect metabolism of any drugs that are metabolized by the P450 Enzyme 3A4. reference http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3804/is_200201/ai_n9083616/ ; Depending on what drug it is, if you are taking it, it could affect how you trip.  For example an antipsychotic that is metabolized by 3A4 might be potentiated by grapefruit juice and you wouldn't trip as hard, etc.  you'll have to do your own research on this because this is a fucking complicated topic, people do doctoral dissertations on stuff like this.
