Tarot Cards * 1
    #4995089 -

I've used tarot cards for a long time, but never properly. It hasn't been until recently that I've begun to develop a relationsip with the cards I currently use, and they've been very helpful since.

What are some good ways to further develop a connection and understanding with your cards besides doing readings? Because I feel that I do not need any questions answered for myself currently.

No I havent. I must say I'm extremely amateur when it comes to tarot cards, because it wasnt until recently I began connecting with them. Before I never quite got fully immersed in them with the right mindframe about how to use them.

I find my recent understanding with them has really resparked my interest, and I would like to understand my deck better and delve into them again.

THank you for the reccomendation though, I'll definitly keep my eye out for it on my trips to the bookstore

I can tell you my method from which I have obtained very interesting results. I don't know how it would work for others.

1. Forget everything you know and have learned about the cards.

2. Every night, take a card and meditate on it for 1 hour. Think about the very first things that come to mind such as the shapes, the figures, and the way they are positioned on the card. Think about what this means to you, personally, regardless of what you previously thought about the card. Place the card next to you or under your pillow while you sleep and you should begin to notice subtle shifts in your dreaming. This is good, it means the exercise is working.

3. Write down all of your dreams and thoughts upon awakening, even if it is in the middle of the night...especially then. Go through the deck or just the trumps and take notes, record the date, etc.

4. When you are finished go back to the first card and, this time, read about the card and study it academically. In other words, do some research into the origins and nature of the card, learn the correlations and identify the symbolism.

5. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

Now you should be able to gain a new appreciation for your original dreams. When this exercise is done properly, you should be able to compare and contrast your 1st and 2nd dream to discover the hidden significance in the 1st.

I think the above method is capable of increasing your understanding of the cards and, thus, the formula of the universe. Sometimes the cards also need to understand you.

My partner who is very good with tarot, for a long time did a short 3 card reading every morning. The more you use them the better you get. If you wait to have a specific question there can be gaps of time without study.

I usually rotate through the cards once and then i'll go back and study them for the second round of meditation. I'll start at XXI for trumps and work my way to 0. You can do it randomly as well, thats what they were meant for after all! I like to have order because, as with anything else of this nature, personal significance will increase your chances of success and understanding. Funny thing about the tarot is that you can have the cards in any order and it will still be a valid representation of the universe. You may also want to choose a certain date and orchestrate your meditations in a formula based on the calendar, for example. Its really up to you to determine what is best for yourself and do what it takes to achive the desired result.

If you try this exercise, let me know if anything interesting happens.

I know people who have done it that way, I just don't understand what I would be looking for in the cards without a question? Does she read them as daily affirmations/lessons?

catalysis- I might try it tonight, but ill definitly let you know if I do it how it works out

Ask Veritas, she can tell you all the details. She has the cards and meanings mostly memorized. You need to work with them alot for that. I need the book constantly.

goodness, I believe your method may be a very powerful way to gain insight to self.

I've just woken up, from a very interesting, and related dream to the hermit that I meditated on.

In the morning, once I find sleep again I will PM you the details of it all, but I just wanted to post this here right now, because I'm pretty blown away

The three-card spread I used as a learning tool is as follows:

(laid right to left)
1. Body: physical aspects, money, work, belongings, relationships.
2. Mind: mental aspects, ideas, concerns, thoughts, learning.
3. Soul: spiritual aspects, inner work, aha! moments, understanding.

I would focus on the potential of the day ahead before I laid the cards. In the evening, I would look at them again & make connections between the events of the day.

This is an excellent way to develop a deeper understanding of the cards. Rather than asking a specific question, you use the symbols to hone your intuition about the general direction your life will take in the immediate future.

And on this subject, here's a place where you can consult tarot cards if you don't have a deck. Also they have Runes, Stichomancy, I Ching, etc. as well....

How do you choose the cards, I know I met someone who did it in a manner where she cut the deck 2 times, or do you spread them and choose 3?

I prefer to shuffle them until they feel "done," then deal three from the top.

well I've just used your suggested practice in the manner I remember it once being done, and I find that it was very helpful.

I'm really glad my interest in the tarot deck has been rekindled, its really been helping me move forward and understand. I believe as of late I have been realizing what fantastic tools they are, I never thought I would be falling in love with my mini connolly deck in quite the way I am.

Thanks for everyones input! they've all been really really great amazingly useful!

You're welcome!

Another three-card spread I like is used when you are faced with a challenging situation.

1. The current situation
2. Action to take
3. Results of action (i.e. where you will end up)

I have used computer Tarot appz for a few years and find them to be great because after awhile different cards take on specific meanings for me. Tarot is never wrong though it's often hard for the person to read them right.

To develop a relationship I often just say honestly, "Hey Tarot, tell me something I should know!" Or. "How will work go today?" or something basic like that and then just think over the cards that arise. Also, doing some simple spreads for quick answers is fun as well and easier to focus on. A good spread is the simplified Celtic Cross where they go

3
1 2
4

I is the situation, 2 is what it is not a good time to do, 3 is something that is it a good time to do, 4 is the outcome.

I used that link to tarot and declined on reversals and significators.
I used the celtic cross
I liked the cuts
and did my own interps with the waite rider deck (and then the ATOR deck -adorable!)
same almost as if I were using real cards.

the celtic cross gives a good set of relationships
the waite deck is full of basic information in each card
so the associations between the relations are rich
reversals just make it harder to read, there is enough inthe relations
and significator removes a lot of spontaneity in the shuffle.

if you know the cards this way makes sense
the text output, however, from http://www.facade.com/tarot/ was very robotic
I might get the ator deck next, yummy cute cards

I do tarot for quite a while now. Started with Raider-White (sp?), commenced with Gypsy, rosecrucifixians(sp?) and some others until I landed within a totally different system, meaning the same cards, but different order on the kabbalistic tree of life for the main arcanas. It's from a religious order called 'society of the inner light", which use tarot also for ritual magic practice. I don't take the difference from the common 'relations' of the arcanes very seriously, as I don't know why these seperations were made, all I see is that it is much more logical.
I am not finished with my comparison of arcanes yet. but I will love to post the (numerical/alphabetical) relations on the tree of life for this system (same cards):

letter  between arcane
B 1-2 hierophant
C 1-3 hermit
D 1-6 star
F 2-3 court
G 2-4 male monarch
H 2-6 temperance
J 3-5 death
K 3-6 hanged man
L 4-5 justice
M 4-6 strength
N 4-7 female monarch
P 5-6 tower
Q 5-8 devil
R 6-7 lovers
S 6-8 chariot
T 6-9 sun
V 7-8 fate
W 7-9 priestress
X 7-10 world
Y 8-9 magician
Z 8-10 fool
Th 9-10 Moon

works like heaven
