I'm thinking of getting back into it, it was quite fun to research and do readings
And though my friend didn't believe in them, he ALWAYS got the Tower

Sorry, but I have been warned not to give an opinion counter to the prevailing belief in magic even when asked directly. Will have to do this in PMs.

As long as you see the readings as 'possibilities' there is no end to fun and exploration.

This forum is too slow for me to complain about keeping on topic, I watt some pizza too, it sucks working nights, cause everything is closed!
Anyway, I've heard the words Torah, Thought, Truth and Church all come from the word(s) T.A.R.O.T.
I think the Tarot is a map of the Psyche and a method of it's transformation, and wasn't originally used as a fortune telling or divination device...
Ever notice the major Arcana are all the same person?
I've been studying Crowley's Book of Thoth deck and all I can say is WoW... aHa!

True story here....
I have the deck of tarot cards that has dragons on it (I collect dragons - to a lesser extent now).... I had met this chick, and we were interested in each other, and she came over and we got on the tarot card subject, so I went and got my deck.... She knew what the cards meant, and did a reading for me by laying the cards I chose into a formation....
The reading (according to her) said that there was a new important relationship starting to form in my life, and will blossom into something big.... That was the jist that I remember, there was much more to it (it happened over a year ago).... We spent the rest of the day together doing various things - mostly chatting about different things, and had a genuine good time....
Then, I never saw nor heard from her again.... I know I took a shower and brushed my teeth that day....!? I think the tarot card reading scared her away....

The Tarot for divination is ok but I prefer the I-Ching. Usually I do a reading for the same question using the Tarot, I-ching and Runes.
But the Tarot is an excellent tool for studying and contemplating the Qabalistic tree of life. The Tarot is a pictoral representation of the Qabalistic Tree of life through the 4 Qabalistic worlds which are depicted by the 4 suits.
22 trumps are the 22 Hebrew letters which are the connecting paths of the tree.
Cards 1-10 are the 10 Sephiroth.
The 4 suits are the emenations of the tree through the 4 Qabalistic worlds and are also a manifistation of the name of God YHVH.
The 4 Court cards are the personification of the name of God YHVH as the Father, the Mother, the Son and the Daughter (which Qablistically are called Abba, Aima, Zauir Anpin and Malkah) and are represented through the 4 worlds/suits.
That the tarot is a pictoral representation of the tree of life is its most valuable characteristic imho.

Tarot is BS, but it can be fun for ten minutes.
I-ching is pure evil. If your "friends" try to pull out the i-ching, its time to leave. Just get up and go, make a lame excuse if you have to. It is best to be abrupt so you don't get hit again.
I was given this advice years ago; Had my first i-ching experience roughly one year ago. I really wish I had paid more attention to the advice.
If you find yourself sucked into i-ching, you have fucked up pretty bad and your night is basically screwed. The best thing you can do to remediate the situation is try to lose the pieces. Its best to accidentally throw them under the radiator, there are lots of holes under there and they may never be found. If there is no radiator within throwing distance, your best bet is to toss them so they go under the couch, or pocket them when no one is looking.
I-ching is like a police interrogation - under NO circumstances should you consent.

Anyone who says the Tarot is BS has NO IDEA what they are talking about, imo.
Why do you think the I Ching is "pure evil"?
Quote:
You said that no one is going to come to the bottom of the Tarot. Why is that?
Because it is a fractal or holograph. Its permutations are endless. I always maintain that the Tarot is the authentic Emerald Tablets of Hermes. It is the Book of Life. The 22 Major Trumps correspond to the Egyptian, Hebrew, Celtic and English Magical alphabets, to the Kabalistic Tree of Life, the Chakra system, to the Alchemical Magnum Opus, to sacred Numerology, the physical orbit and movement of the luminaries and planets, to the Precession of the Equinoxes, the Process of Human Individuation, the yearly maturation of the human-being, the Personality Types, the zodiac, the sequence of the historical centuries (1st - 21st), the Periodic Table of Elements and several other esoteric and exoteric phenomena. It has endless correspondences connecting to Astro-Theology, geometry, numerology, cosmology, psychology, symbolism, general aesthetics, and so on. It communicates in non-linear symbols and that makes it very important for the future, and for the re-education of humankind. - M. Tsarion

There's more than one use for Tarot.
I don't use mine anymore but always liked them for meditation when I did. For me they weren't able to divine but were used as a tool to focus for divination.
But as for reading for other people, it just seemed so pointless, they are gonna do what they want anyway. And I got tired of defending using them. I prefer yoga now, although where I live that's considered kooky too.
