I've had best luck with the cheapest bird seed. No fundicides. That why it was cheap but if you let it set around to long.... If you need to store it put in refeg.

You can put hydrated WBS down the disposal. I don't know if I'd try putting the dry stuff down there, though.

Your problem is definitely not fungicide. You're getting mycelial growth and mold in the jars. Your problem looks more like your pressure cooker or possibly your inoculation technique.

That is not an opption. Ok, let me pull a new bag of WBS that doesnt contain fungicide out of my ass.
I believe I gave you another option.

What are the brands of WBS in particular people are having problems with?
I have usually bought the Penningtons 4# at a time from walmart with no problems.
I just want to know what not to buy:)

I'm having very good luck with Pennington so far as well - one soaked and simmered, one soaked only....
The soak only mix carmelized a little, but it colonizing well, albeit a little slow. The soaked and simmered batch has been going nuts - two jars are second-gen G2G's, and they're exploding with growth. Others are spore-syringe inoculated and showing no growth, but there could be some germination in the middle of the jar that hasn't poked out to the sides yet.

ok.... i don't think it's my inoculation technique, or pc'n.
I just made about 20 quart jars with diff WBS. and they are looking great! white fluffy myc. i can almost guarantee it's the birdseed i used. it was coated in a powdery substance.
