they should smell like wet grain unless they are colonized... then is should smell like mushrooms... any other smell is an indicator of contams

I've been having problems with sour apple or a fermenting smell in my wbs even after letting it soak for 3 days and pc'ing at 15psi for 1.5 hours. Should I pc longer?

I just let em sit cause I couldn't get around to em. But, back to my question. Why would that cause any problems? The pc'ing should kill any bacteria. So I'm wondering where my problem is coming from. I didn't get this problem with popcorn.

i have smelled the sour/fermenting smell and it is not nice
i can't answer the paticulars of why this is a problem
logic tells me it shouldn't be if grain is steralized properly
but still
with WBS being so cheap, why would you even bother?
and yes slimy is bad

I had some WBS that I let sit for too long get that same smell. I just washed the WBS many times until the water was clean and then boiled the jars for even longer and so far the jars are fine.
