Tannish color - contam? or still ok? (i hope)
    #4954075 -

In the first pic you can see some tannish color in some of the mycelium. Are these just thin areas of mycelium where maybe substrate can be seen through it, or contam, or something else completely, or maybe nothing?

In the 2nd pic you see in the top and in the top right some more tan. It doesn't look particularly daunting, but it still has me a little on edge. Any one have any ideas?

Yes there's a verm layer on top. I was hoping it was just myc piss. It doesn't have any different texture or shape to it, it just looks like part of the mycelium, just a different tan hue. So I'm not terribly worried, just paranoid. I smelled the jar and it smelled fine to me.

hmm well most contams smell funky and that just does look like myc piss/verm so i wouldnt worry about it... you will definetly know when you case them or birth em.

In the case of myc pee pee is that a sign that you should birth it very soon?

naww just means that the myc is growing and eating nutes and expelling waste but it does look fully colonized so a birthing should be pretty soon

i see no myc piss, it looks like the myc is just a bit transparent and letting the substrate show through.
no worries, give them a couple extra days after they appeared to be fully colonized and then birth em.
are you fruiting as cakes? if so, are you dunking and rolling?

:peace:

I was just planning on birthing them as cakes in a perlite fruiting chamber.  I have 26 jars all colonizing.  This one is Cambodian, holy SHIT do they ever colonize fast!  All the cambos are ready almost, the Puerto's are a bit slower, and the B+ are in between.  So I'm excited.  I just thought this jar looked a tad odd.  The mycelium near the top right of the 2nd picture almost looks crusty.  What does that mean?

Edit: (By the way, I didn't sterlize the perlite, I just washed it and cleaned the tub first.  Is that still conducive to a good environment, or does everything in a fruiting chamber have to be sterilized?  I find no information about this while searching.  I have so many jars because I want to make sure that if some of them contam I will still get some good production.

Looks ok to me!

Should be fine without sterilizing the perlite.  I never have and haven't had a problem. :smirk:
