What is the color of mycelium?

I'm gorwing in a malt broth. i have a bunch of fluffy stuff in the jars. in some the fluffy stuff is on the bottom. in 2 there is white stuff floating on top dotted with little black things. is it contamination or does mycelium have the black dots?

the jars were started 4 days ago from an eq syringe

Black dots could be spores stuck together..give it more time.

Hmm...Mycelium does not have black dots.

Look to where you innoculated, thats where the myclieum should be germinating. It is greyish-white and a little whispy inthe beginning stages, however starts to get bright white in the maturing stages....I dont think that spores would be connected on the ends because spores are microscopic first of all, and second of all, the fusion of the spores is whats causes the growth of mycelium.

Im leaning towards cobweb or another type of contam. hope im wrong..

when spores clump together they turn into black spots.

This is definitely contamination. the quarter sizes floating things from yesterday now cover the entire surface of the liquid medium. There does appear to be some healthy mycelium on the bottom. I'm thinking about getting the stuff off the bottom and use it to inoculate more jars. I have taken some pics and will post when they are developed.

Does anyone know where i can get a long large gauge needle?
