Re: Why ego "loss"? [Re: incubaby_421]

I lose my keys all the time.
But, I usually find them.

However, saying "God dammnit, I just lost my keys!" is a totatly accurate and valid thing to say, even if you've only just misplaced them (as, you'll tend to find them).

Same thing for ego. Just because you lost your ego for a moment, doesnt mean that you dont find it back. For some people, a big part of the ego/loss expierence, is re-building your ego from the ground up.

To say ego loss isnt truely "losing your ego", is getting caught up in the semantics of it.

but ego still exists

This basically sums up what I was saying.

Ego Disolution is a better word for it, but loss still applies... in that moment I have LOST the ego and simply am. After the fact I reintergrate with it and try to relate the experience to others.

Same goes for splitting the ego or displacing the ego (ever watched a movie and gotten so involved that you've BECOME the movie?).

I like this post... because during ego loss... the "individual" does not exiist.... in which sense... their ego is completely gone... lost...

but after the experience is over.... one's ego begins to reshape itself right away.

What I think you're trying to get at is that you experienced a merging with your surroundings? is this right?

Yah I just felt like everything came together- You know in this beautiful harmonious entity. I forgot about my problems and my life (that i was even a person) and thought about how great wonderful and interesting everything is. (Like being born again)  That was egoloss to me.  It is strange, I think it changed my life and my way of thinking. Thats the best way I can explain it.

I think it might be moe valuble to have this conversation with the guy that told me he is now "egoless" since going through ego loss.

Everyone here seems to be on the same track already anyway.

its really inexplicable, an enigma of and within itself,
i think we say ego loss because for a breif period of time you are without your ego...
there may be better terminology for this though. who knows

If he has a concept of "he" to be egoless, then he isnt egoless - and is misusing the term I think in that regard.

hehe, not a bad idea... I will when I talk to him again... He was just some random guy at school who I sometime's talk about drugs with.

I think it all comes down to me being too picky about what this guy said. But at the time I was thinking "if you think going through ego loss means your are now egoless, than I think you are missing some valuble lessons that are within your reach if you wanna grasp them."

But maybe he just picked shitty words to use in the moment... who knows.

Just try it no sense in talking about it ! I guess it might be a different experience (probably similar actually but people interpret it differently) for everyone but you will know when it happens!

I think ego misplacement more accurately describes what ego loss is... Who here (on Earth) is without an ego?

No one loses their ego... they just misplace it or batter it down until it is almost nothing. Then they either find it or start again with what's left of the one they were used to.

Say on a rare occasion, one loses their ego completely, they will only start over again with a new one.

Do you see it differently?

Wow I thought it of it completely different, but it's a very nice theory in a way. I just noticed I lose ego ONLY if on shrooms I realize how shitty it is. If it's normal to me, I probably won't change.

I'm still trying to decide if I've expierenced ego loss or not. Many people seem to describe it as a scary/terrifying expierence.

Some times, I /think/ I've had it - no concept of self,no concept of time or place - just pure energy , connected to everything in the universe.

I found it to be a very fearless, blissfull and euphoric expirence, while when I hear others describe their ego loss - they seem to do so in a way that it sounds like it scared them going into it.

..then, part of me thinks "if I even have to ask the question, - have I had an ego loss? - " then I havnt had one.

In a psychedelic experience of heroic or committed dose a healthy ego would not experience fear. Healthy egos are very rare. The problem is that the ego thinks that if it lets go of controlling the personality even for one second it's going to die. So when it is forced to let go it gets very scared and if you are identified with your ego you will be the scared one thinking you are gonna die. And that's how it seems to work.

Nope, yer right. If you lose your ego, you are one dead puppy. Your ego is your navigating tool for the human experience.

ego "loss" - > "I haven't a thing to wear!" [Re: incubaby_421]
    #4950146 -

sometimes there is no appropriate behavior in the ego's vault of
what to do's.

in the face of immensity, the poor thing runs out of choices:
"I haven't a thing to wear!"

no mask or expression has any meaning or produces any intelligible reaction.
just might as well go naked.

Ego is the mental construct of the self and losing it (or disolving it) leaves one with pure awareness and no context for it (no way to relate to previous experience if all that exists is the moment)

I really like that way of putting it. I would also say that normally ego  is controlling/working by relating to past experiences (in comparison) to actual experience, to find out what to do so to speak. And it is doing it by thoughts. If a person was beaten in the past, a raised hand by someone can make the ego expect the beating again, and result in a defensive, fearful posture. But for another person with no such experiences raised hand may mean something else. Without ego, there is no relating to any experience so raised hand means nothing - there is no more interpretation going on, just being, pure awareness, awareness of raised hand but no meaning to it. (there is no raising, no hand, just awareness of what is happening)

For me, while on a psytrance festival when i let go of my control in a dance, I was all of a sudden liberated from my thoughts, a great peace and stillness appeared. I was free to look people in the eyes without explaining to myself what is going on, I was free to dance to the music without thinking how my moves look like; I was free to lie on the ground, spread my arms and stare into space without wondering how do I look like; smile to people without a shame...  There was no interpretation going on, I just was. And after some time I started to notice that I`m dreaming...  I was considering current situation and wondering about what was happening.. but ego loss state was still so fresh, that I realized immediately, I thought no! smiled and silenced completely again. The dreaming of ordinary thoughts was stopped, I was awaken again. During that night I was observing this process few times, and came to believe that what ego does it produces dreams in our "waking" everyday state of consciousness. It picks interpretations of current situations based on past experiences; it picks just one interpretation at a time, out of infinite possibilities and believes this is the one and only. Thats why it is so easy for misunderstandings among people. And, I believe, all this possibilities are equal and all are illusions and whats real is no interpretation but pure awareness..

So why ego loss? To wake up, to expand consciousness above ordinary limited point of view. And to love

one more thing - ego loss and ego death, I think to lose sense of body, transcend space and time and merge with whole whole universe is true ego death. What I expressed is ego loss - being in a body seeing surroundings but just being

all that is just my thinking, interpretation of my ego

i once dropped 4 hits of acid and i think my "ego-loss" was delayed, haha.
I remember nearing the end of trip when the visual hallucinations were pretty much gone and i was just walking home feeling well near normal i was suddenly struck my the undeniable feeling that i wasn't myself, now of course such a strange thing is expected and actually easier to handle when your in the climax of a crazy trip, everythings swirling around and melting and visuals are going nuts, mind is clicking through tonnes of thoughts a second, its easy to just let fly and go with the flow.
but when i was just walking, then hit with this really fucked up sense,it completely freaked the shit out of me,and i guess my ego went to work spinning its magic trying rationalize and fight,i remember i started crying all of a sudden while walking, then a second later laughing saying "What the fuck!?" then getting really confused, then getting intensely scared...all in like 2 or 3 seconds, and there was actually tears...nearly drove me completely nuts...i felt the after effects of that bout for months...wierd pointless thought loops, internal conversations trying to figure meaningless bullshit out about self and such
i wonder if that was a fucked up ego-loss

Ego loss is when you realize there really was no real you in the first place. I realize that the real me is only a construct of happenstance, happening perfectly. That the "gem" inside of you is not the thing you thought you were. I become the root of humanity and all of us. That all of us are the same. All in equality. All playing the endless game together. Woops, I have come full circle and taken my ego back up again.

Loss and death refer more to the fact that there is no you, unlike what most of us have thought for our entire lives.

You can't fuck it up, the stakes you think this game has are not real!
