culture doesnt dissappear, it changes over time

through mass media however, we(the western cultures of north america and western europe) are pushing other cultures toward the western dreams of free market, consumerism, etc.

well, we have already hit peak oil, so shit is just going to get more expensive. Personally I think it would be a welcome change to see our current ways colapse. I rather like the idea of survivalism.

Culture is constantly in motion. There's never a point when you can point to a culture and say it will stay the same for a given amount of time, becaue it never stays the same.

Now, if you're referring specifically to the oil economy, I'd give it another 10-20 years. If we play our cards right, we may just get through it with relatively little harm, though I'm fairly sure that we will have to make a few major adjustments in our way of life.

I see things getting bad before they get even worse. Mankind's iron fisted domination of this planet will eventually end, whether sooner or later, and how it happens is speculative.

The birth rates of the more developed countires of the world are declining, and death rates are slowing, check out a population pyramid for a country like Switzerland for an illustration.

then look at a lesser developed country like India

In an MDC like Switzerland, once all the old people die or retire there will be a serious lack of workers, spiking immigration.
In an LDC like India, with developments in medicine (mostly imported from the West), more people will reach working age, flooding the job market, and spiking emigration.

Preety soon there will be so much migration from LDCs to MDCs that there will be little to no folk culture left, most countries will be like huge mixing bowls with residents from across the globe.

not saying thats a bad thing though, countires cant hold onto traditional culture forever, look at Tibet. Tibetans tried to preserve their culture and stay cut off from the outside world for a log time, the Dalai Lama acknowledged the need for modernization and was working on it when the Chinese invaded in 1950 and sent the Tibetan government into exile within a decade.

That moment will never happen. There will still be a considerable amount of oil left by the time it becomes to expensive to be practical.

word, in no way is it going to be a good thing when gas reaches the point where it becomes to expensive to be practical.

the price of consumer goods is going to go WAY up, and not just frozen food and paper towels, virtually every product you encounter on a daily basis, including those on the black market.

think about what would happen if indoor growers couldn't afford their power bill, would you be willing to pay $50 for a gram of mexiweed?
