How to survive the coming economic collapse?
    #3408219 - 11/25/04 03:44 PM (12 years, 18 days ago)

Especially in underground knowledge circles, such as these boards, there is little dispute that an economic collapse is forthcoming. First in the USA, then to the rest of the world (which relies heavily on the USA from an economic perspective). It could be a matter of months, or even days. Knowledge of this is spreading among the masses faster with every passing day. But hey, if you don't believe in this, then humour me, for the sake of this thread. :yesnod:

From what I understand, precious metals are my best bet. However, my fear is this: If the collapse is as big as some predict, the notion of money will change fundamentally and economy, as we know it today, will cease to exist (it is conventional and, like our conventional egos for example, is destined for self-annihilation). Will I be able to convert my mutual funds into cash and, if so, will this cash be worth anything? What is the best (read: most secure) method of investing in precious metals? Mutual funds? Silver certificats? Owning the raw metal itself? Stocks in mining companies? Etc.

Or, is there an altogether superior safety net than precious metals? Thanks in advance.

(there doesn't seem to be any forum particularly suited to this kind of discourse...)

how to survive? trade your stock values and 'cash' (worthless numbers) for valuable survival supplies, food, gasoline, and precious metals (as in the metals themselves not stocks)

also secure a safe comfortable place where you could live at least 3 days walk from any cities.

vegetable gardens, fruit trees, access to game or fresh water, solar or wind heating, generators, etc will become the most saught after commodities.

buy a gun too.

And load up on green tea.

seriously. bath in it in the event of nucleur fallout

I'm so far removed from the rest of the world out here in MT..I'm literally minutes away from some of the largest wilderness areas in the country, anyone and everyone who wants to come chill in the woods when shit goes down is welcome to do so

Stock up on precious metals, make sure you are close to a fresh water source (underground spring preferably)...if you don't have a bicycle, get one...since fuel will be much too expensive. Bartering will be the most common way to get things done. i.e...I'll give you two jugs of water for that chicken. Keep a gun handy with lots of ammo. (for hunting or self defense)...and be prepared to leave everything you own behind in case you need to leave quickly.

stock up on gold and silver? hell no

first off, gold is worthless except we base our money on it.. If they system collapses there IS NO money, gold is worthless.. Food, and most important GASOLINE becomes the new gold, and therefor3 the new money system...

why do you so strongly believe an economic collapse will occur soon? what actual evidence do you have? please do not say "man, I just have a feeling. you know, shit is bound to happen."

do you have a degree in economics?

AS I recall, they were saying the same thing in 1992 or 1993, and of course, the infamous "disaster" of Y2K....

I found this article awhile back explaining the situation:
Is a USA Economic Collapse Due in 2005?
I'll admit that I know next to nothing about the US economy, but under Bush this seems entirely plausible.

I can see why the government would want to keep a tight lid on this.
If they just came out and admitted that they were in trouble foreign investors would pull out their cash so fucking fast it would make your head spin(and fuck the economy).

I kinda hope this goes down, I always liked road-warrior now I'll get to live it!
