you don't need a compost pile to be vulnerable to this pest-
just a roomate with a drinking problem in conjunction w/ poor housekeeping.

they were a chronic problem for a couple weeks.

BEWARE THE GNAT ----IS RIGHT.

Sheez.........potato peels, or one rotten spot on an apple, onion or bad lettuce in kitchen trash - under the sink can draw them. So can the moist soil in a potted plant. Winters setting in, so the scuzzy little bastards are looking to come on in & set up house keeping - anywhere warmer - than outside.

i have had gnats.... they suck

"BEWARE THE GNATS"
one flew up my nose once.... followed by the frantic arm waiving and smacking my nose to get him out!!

but i do not have a compost pile, just a dirty roommate. Gnats love beercans. one beercan left out, they are swarming, living, and laying eggs in it also. they die quick, but reproduce quicker. PAIN IN THE ASS TO GET RID OF!

someone suggested Apple Cider Vinegar - they go to it, adn die.
