use of cat food in substrate?

I was thinking of performing an experiment in which I would add a small amount of ground up purina kitty chow for extra nutrients in my substrate. Anybody ever try something like this and if yes what were the results?

I'm assuming the kitty chow has preservatives, therefore that would be a no-go.
