Socrates and Ethics
    #4858346 -

The Socratic belief holds that no man will willingly choose falsehood over truth, or evil over good. The assumption here is that ignorance makes the bad choice possible. It is the conviction that full knowledge leads to right action, and that right action is impossible without full knowledge.

I think, for such a notion to have substantial accuracy - at least, in practice, not theory - it will have to refer not merely in broad generalities, but to specific situations at hand. It's also important not to confuse full-knowledge for omniscience. Full knowledge is contextual, of course.

What are your thoughts, fellow philosophers & sages?

Did Socrates share Plato's view of an idea world, out of time as pure force?

Not sure. If I remember correctly though, Socrates and Plato were pretty close in terms of philisophical similarities. Perhaps the immortal MarkostheGnostic will chime in and clear that up.

If that is true (and I guess it is), then the inner moral compass would always point towards unity and all that unites our essence.

So the more one is immersed in unity and oneness, the more true one is to ones self (complete), and ones thoughts and actions will adjust accordingly.

Regardless of one's knowledge [or lack thereof] in any given situation?

The Socratic belief holds that no man will willingly choose falsehood over truth

That is the stance of the true student; however, most, even many who think they are students, will choose comfort in the form of the continuance of past false beliefs, over truth.

This is especially obvious in the 'East Berlin' forum.

It is more comforting for some to assume that they have a heavenly kingdom of eternity waiting for them after death, rather than admitting that they are just going to rot in the ground like everyone else they've ever known who has died. Though, perhaps it is ignorance that makes that conviction possible.

Ignorance of what? Are there facts stating of what's going to happen after death that Christians are ignoring?

As we keep focus, slowly being immersed in being, our perception of truth improves.

True, yet so few see it and they have been lost down the rabbit hole forever.

The only problem with the Socratic belief of choosing good over evil is that perception creates what good and evil are, if you kill a cow for meat, some might think that the most evil thing, saying you should eat plants, while others find it completely justifiable for survival.

also, you can never attain full knowledge, if you do you just get lost down the rabbit hole, or go crazy, because full knowledge does not exist (at least in this physical vessel that we call a body)

you can be everything without knowing everything, this is what most people miss

What about lying? I am full aware that what I am doing is wrong, yet I continue to do it for my benefit, uberknownst to you.

Then the Socratic student would say that you, in fact, do not possess full knowledge [or sufficient knowledge], for you to take right action in the situation at hand.

Basically the position amounts to this:
"Anytime I have committed an act of evil or injustice - it was because I was acting in accordance to the level of knowledge I possessed at that time."

Then you are acting in accordance to the level of knowledge you possess. In theory, if you had gained deeper or more knowledge in so far as your procrastinating behavior, then your behavior would change accordingly.
