Depends what you are into...

Pink Floyd is the old stand-by
Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Phish, Moe, Widespread Panic are very popular amongst Heads
Infected Mushroom and Sphongle are great electronic artists who design their stuff for trippin
The Disco Biscuits include a little bit of all of the above, don't see how you can go wrong with DB.

You gotta love the Pink Floyd, but recently i was introduced to Tool. Although they are pretty heavy (which i usually don't like while im trippin), i think maynard is a friggin genius. just listen to some of the lyrics, and check out the book inside the new cd (lateralus, i think) it is AMAZING, i was staring at it for almost an hour when i was trippin.

this is the last time I will ever post on trip music, because i've probably posted on these threads a thousand times, kinda sick of it ....

Of course Pink Floyd, there is no doubt. meddle and ummagumma for sure.

Tool ... eh ... sure they are great but IMO their Lateralus CD is somewhat repetitive in the sense that I don't find a heck of a lot of variety in each song ... nice rhythms, if not a bit too dark and heavy, so what i'm tryin to say is it is good music to listen to once in a while, but not tripping

and i cant believe you failed to mention radiohead ... heh

Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Tosca

Theres tons of others out there too. Next time you trip try experimenting with various kinds of music you enjoy sober or when high on weed.

shitty? i never knew posting my opinion was a bad thing, apparently it is.  i don't really remember posting anything offensive in there either as i respect everybody's choices of music

if you think I am shitty, don't go into OTD.  fair warning, the people there might frighten you. (*cough* PGF *cough* lol )

i'm not an asshole tho you apparently interpret me as one, i've just been here 2000 posts longer than you and have seen probably around 200 of these "trip music" posts and all I was saying is that after this one I'm done with them, I never said they were bad, and of course they aren't.  they should go on.  I was merely stating my thoughts on how I personally am done with them.  don't take things on this board personally, just a tip, everybody says what they have to say in good fun here, nobody is a real asshole.  i would know i've been "living" with them for months now.

you should be happy Alone In The Fire is gone ...

anyway I think that anything you enjoy in real life will prove to be very enjoyable when tripping.  for me it is all about mood:  if i am in the mood for something upbeat to chill into the trip, Bob Marley/Peter Tosh/Beatles are always good choices, great trip starters.  if i want something that will make my trip extremely intense, then I go for something with heavy beats and many rhythmic patterns: tribal drumming, trance, etc.  if i want my trip to border the edge of scary (which is often, I do it during the peak to totally blow my mind) then I listen to Pink Floyd: Ummagumma (CD 2 in particular, astronomy domine and careful with that axe eugene will just fuckin blow you away...Meddle is also good, as it has a clean and beautiful transition from scary to happy, then to the end which is like a 17 minute trip by itself ) ... scary music should be reserved IMO for when you couldn't get in a bad mood, and just want to have more fun.  i love it, the visuals become highly intense and sometimes scary, which makes for interesting inspiration for my art.  i dunno, that's just me, like people have said, experiment and you will find your niche.  have fun

Buy yourself some Ween. Mind yourself to listen to the CD before you trip though, it can get kind of rough. Spinal Meninigitis comes to mind on Chocolate & Chees, otherwise that's a solid trip CD.

I'd go for White Pepper and Chocolate & Cheese. They're solid albulms. If you're a big Phish-head, they covered Roses Are Free from C&C. on a live CD. Ween does good work, check em out.

You are kidding right? Every song is extremely different. Different tempos, different subject matter, different time signatures, different tuning of the instruments, different vocal styles. What more variety do you want out of a band?

I feel that lateralus is going to be perceived as one of the greatest albums in history, once some time goes by.

As far as dark and heavy, perhaps on their older music, where they were more angry and graphic, but the new album is beautiful, imo.

They speak of crucifying the ego before its too late, about the simple beauty of being alive, about the exploration of consciousness to go where nobody has before, to challenge one's self, etc etc.

I dunno. Ive always found tool's music to be dark and beautiful, but the new album to me is transcendent. Ive been a BIG fan since about 93 btw....

very true, it is all purely subjective, of course. i like their music, unlike a lot of bands these days they are very musically "together" and obviously have quite a bit of music theory in their blood. overall great music.

what i mean is, on a trip i need complete variety, if the songs sound at all similar I don't enjoy it. to me a lot of the new Tool cd sounds similar in the sense that on a trip I would confuse all the songs and get caught in a horrible loop ...

i don't really know how to explain it. i am not disputing about Tool being a great band I am merely saying they aren't a first choice for trip music IMO
