Once again, trip music

obviously i love to listen to music while shrooming, as does everyone i think. i enjoy classic trip music such as pink floyd, but i also love underground hiphop as theres always alot more emotion in the music than mainstream stuff. electronica is fun too. im compiling an mp3 cd of trip music (just got a tight player for christmas) and was hoping that everyone could post a song or two that they especially like while shrooming. (i listen to everything cept country and folk music, which sucks ass so feel free to share whatever)
please specify in this format genre - artist - song name - and any particular thoughts that work well with the music while in an altered state of consiousness.
thanks for any contributions
an aside..... for any moderators or admins or whatever, i think itd be cool to add to the site a section on alltime favorite things to do, music to listen too, etc.

Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, and Astral Projection are my favorite trance style music to listen to while tripping.
Also, in the classical way, Bach, Mozart and Beethoven can supply me with endless hours of tripping insight.
On the metal side of things, Nevermore has provided me with some interesting trip music. Also... Blind Guardian, Opeth, Borknagar, RUSH, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth.. the list goes on.

Please add these two songs to your trip compilation, you wont regret it.
"Peter standing alone" - Boards of Canada - (album: Music has the right to chilldren)
While triping, think of the song title and then listen to the sole vocal sample in the song, and think about what it might mean.
and secondly
"Music is math" - Boards of Canada - (Album: geogaddi)
On a high dose trip, this song can cause some very interesting aural hallucinations.

Tool - Lateralus
Anything by Shpongle
Songs by the "Shamen" are usually pretty cool, like "Possible Worlds".

Anything by Yanni is good..........please, kill me. Now.
Butt Seriously folks, here's a list of my faves:
An amplified fart track that comes out of your own butt (very important that it's your own butt). Sample that track and put it on an endless loop. If after farty-five minutes you can't hear the voice of God within the fart, stop laughing and try again.
Other than that, try these:
Anything on the Waveform label, check out the sound samples on the internet. Especially, Open Canvas. Visit: www.waveformhq.com
Tommorrow Never Knows on The Beatles Revolver CD
Secret World by Peter Gabriel
When I Was A Boy by Jane Sibery (Highly Recommended)
You Can Be Anyone This Time Around by Timothy Leary From the CD credits:"the musical equvalent of a full-blown LSD trip. Timothy Leary speaking over a funkified Jam and highly edited psychedelic music beds, Leary recorded the prototypical house/acid house album back in 1969" on Ryko Disc
Oracle by Micheal Hedges from the Master Guitarist and Space Cadet
Sacred Fire by Santana Live from South America
Stratosphere by Tangerine Dream
Yessongs by Yes
The Healer by John Lee Hooker
Always remember to close your eyes while listening, for you already contain the universe. Look no futher than the back of you eyelids.
PS - I wasn't kidding about that fart track.....

He may figure it out.. eventually. Then again, even CDs playing thru a cheap, mass-market receiver from Sureits Shitty sounds horrible to me.

LOL! I made a track composed of beltches and farts. It's pretty funny, imo. It's called GAS and it's downloadable from my website-
markmurex.com
I also recomend these tracks of mine for tripping to-
PANACEA and AZURON
Note: These tracks are around 15 miniutes, just to let ya know.

Great music for a different kind of trip experience::
Stereolab and Grandaddy (the grandaddies) I've never seen these groups on the message boards, but trust me-their great voyage groups. They're great for outdoor trips in parks or forest preserves when you don't want techno or synthesized music, but rather be more in touch with nature. At the same time they aren't naturalistic by any means, but are more high quality indie rock from the 90's-NOT ALTERNATIVE. I highly recommend the grandaddies: here's a list of a few of the catchier songs to give you somethin to download to check out/I no longer roll and would never advise anyone to do so, but this music is absolutely AWESOME on E.-----psychedelic echeo's,reverbs, etc commonly used throughout their music, but the great thing about it is it's subtly in the backround thus giving attention to the instrumental sounds with a light cosmic overtone that surrounds the effects. Also, simplicity is really cool when trippin and the grandaddies know how to use simplicity to make a song work. This music probably isn't for everyone. If you like IM then I'd guess this won't be your cup of tea, but give it a try cuz maybe you'll suprise yourself.
A note: Their song usually develops so hold on a minute if the first few riffs don't catch you....
Grandaddy: "Fentry"*** -has a cool wavey synthesized effect "Ghost of 1672"*** "Underneath the Wheeping Willow"*****************This songs seems to be most people's favorite from the Grandaddies. the next 7 songs are my favorite, although they may not necessarily be the best shroom songs. I like my trippy music to be subtle, I seem to get a much more deeper and fulfilling journey. This kind of music is also more conducive to outdoor voyages, camping, etc. "A Broken Household Appliance"**********A really cool song, good one to trip to! "Minor at the Dial -a-View"************ "The Crystal Lake" **********A KICK ASS song, tripy overtones "So you'll Aim Towards"************ Just a KICK ASS song, one of the few songs I mentioned below "Jed the Humanoid"**********One of our favorite for rollin on e, made you feel so damn good inside...Only a few make me remember the incredible feeling of e, and this is one of the three. Not typical for the rave type scene that e became popular in, but an awesome e song and band. "Jed's other Poem"***********It's basically the second half of "Jed the Humanoid"...If you like Jed the Humanoid then you want this one too. "Summer Here Kids"**********And awesome e song, "Pre Merced" has a loud distorted beginning, then quiets down...good song on e, not necessarily a great shroom song. "Chartensgrafs" One of my favorite while on e, really high energy "12-pak-599"** "AM 180"*** "For the Dishwasher"*** "Gentle Spike Resort"** -a quiet song, has trippy synthesized sound behind accoustic guitar, great song for laying on your back and experiencing everything that comes to you. "Glassy-Dusty"*** -download the wordless version, just a trippy ass song, cool cracklin guitar and muffled voices, turns into a rythmic trance song after about a minute in. "Lava Kiss" *** I like this song cuz it goes from being really quite to gettin weird at the 2 minute mark. Basically a really simple moody rock song...nothin special but another good one to listen to while lookin at the clouds-heck they all are!!! "Levitz (Birdless)"**** This song gets psychedelic sounds about half way through that you never notice when youre sober, it also has a cool reverb buz throughout that makes the song feel different "Our Dying Brain"*** just a good song. has a real, real subtle fast clicking in that backround that you pick up on on shrooms, again halfway through cool synthetics "Why Would I Want to Die":***just a cool song, but gets some trippy space sounds partially through. "Wives of Farmers"***could be a good song if you are humored by a song that speaks of farmers' wives...kind of gay/funny "Wretched Song" First 1:30 sucks, then gets trippy, then trancy...ok song "Collective DreamWish" If you want to lay down and look up at the stars while listening to a song about trippin and looking at the stars....well, here you go...don't get too excited, this song doesn't elaborate on the trip...it's really mellow and boring if you ask me but you mike like it.
I mostly see the same music ideas on the boards. Hopefully this might infuse a little variety and new flavour so to speak. Considering what usually suggested I'll assume that it's not going to be most people's cup of tea,but let me know if anyone tries it and what you think.

I want to give a good description for stereo lab too, but I'm not going to be able to tonight. Check back in a day or two. What I can say about Stereolab is this: I was invited by a girlfriend to see them in concert two Octobers ago at the Vic in Chicago. I did E for the first time and it was the best music I'd ever heard. Not a suprise if it's the first time you're doing e, but my friends who supplied the e planned on taking it at the Stereolab concert for quite a few months. Lo Boob Oscillator might be a song you'd hear in a Jetta Volkswagon song....actually I think one of Stereolab's songs is in a Jetta Volkswagon song....don't remember which one though. It's not really music you'd listen to while sober, but then that's not too unusual when you're discussin trippin music. Stereolab's front vocalists are two females (foreigners)-I just read in Entertainment Weakly that one just died in a car accident in California. Anyhow, some of their music resembles Pink Floyd classic Psychedelic tunes. I'll throw a few songs down for quick reference, but it won't be by any means complete. The band uses synthetics, keyboard, drum, guitar, etc. it's very trance but not techno or anything like IM. Sometimes the vocals create the songs rythem....This can be very good shroom music. A few samples are below. You should check out a couple samples next time you're trippin
Stereolab: "Spark Plug"*********
"The Noise of Carpet"*********This was the song that was playing when I peaked for the first time on e. Weirdly and unconventionally, it's a really cool harmonized song for trippin. YOU GOT TO TRY THIS SONG WHILE PEAKIN, IT'LL WIG YOU OUT-AND IF BY CHANCE NOT IT'S ONLY 4 MINUTES LONG SO NO BIG LOSS,.Behind the women's voices are wicked synthetics and 60's psychedelic guitar that really catchy.
"Lo Boob Oscillator"*******starts out really weird, give it a change...it's unconventional but a good e and shroom song. Last 2:30 of the song completely changes and is very very cool trance on shrooms....
"Prisoners of Mars" ************* NOW THIS IS THE TYPE SONG YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO WHEN YOU'RE PAST THE PEAK OF THE TRIP. GREAT RYTHMIC DRUMS, AND AS A GUY I DON'T MIND LISTEN TO THESE TASTY WOMEN'S VOICES. THEY ARE LURING AND MYSTICAL. Also a good song when you're peakin but can't get up from the couch. At those times I don't like loud fast trippy music...it can be overload. This song is perfect...total clearity, mind just floats w the music!!!
Stereolab and Sonic Boom: "Monkey Brain": ************ You want to go to space, trip to this song.
Here's just a few, and not necessarily their best-but they'll give you a good idea of what Stereolab is all about. Let me know what you think!!!

This song is best played first when rolling and peakin on E. You'll love this song. It's the best song I've ever heard while on e. I haven't listened to it while trippin on shrooms, it has potential....trance with kick ass female vocals
Stereolab: "Emperor Tomato Ketchup"
"The Free Design" = You can't understand what the hell she's saying but who cares with that voice.
"Tomarrow is already here" All three will entrance you

Any tool music but if forced to pick a song it would have to be "Third Eye" or "Flood" from 4:20 on. But I prefer more mellow music when peaking and even though tool is the best, listen to all the parts of "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" in sequence, the silences in that song make it trippier and more suited for shrooms where tool is more for cidney

Boards of Canada will completely change your life on Shrooms or LSD. It's the perfect trip music, and many times their music has actually intensified my experiences.
Aphex Twin is another great choice, though I'd recommend his ambient works for a strong trip.
Also, Porcupine Tree, A Perfect Circle, and Tool.
Lately my favorite trip music has been Beck, just about any one of his albums is a good choice.

Sigur Ros - Gong (Amazing band, great song. Just melodies and harmonies)
Bjork - All is full of love (My fav artist, just amazing)
Oceansize - Unfamiliar (Also great band, rocky, epic, very melodic)
Jakob - Anything is good, mellow and epic
The Mars Volta - All of their stuff is made by drugs for drugs lol
Battles - Crazy music to listen to, epic yet wacky
A perfect circle - If your a Maynard fan you prolly know the deal
CocoRosie - Quirky but minimalistic
Massive Attack - Classic electronica!
Portishead - Melodic trip hop
Oh if you wanna scare the shit out of yourself you can download a song I made when I was 15 at http://www.myspace.com/wiildndoogmusic
'Bedtime Song for the Kiddies' is the one.

holy shit yeah, Portishead. They're perfect for tripping, especially their first album. or Third, but you can't go wrong with any of their albums.

Binaural beats are pretty good.
Classical is great, Bach's "French Suite" sounds pink or lacy white and Victorian to me.
Try just humming to yourself, repeatedly hum "aum" aloud.
There's also sweet silence.

Chemical brothers - surrender, for the PEAK experience. That cd has taken me and my buddies on many armchair adventures through the cosmos

I strongly suggest any Moody Blues Album, my favorite for the current is "A Question of Balance".

Okay, I'm gonna stick with the "genre - artist - song - comment" scheme that you suggested
* Psych. Rock - Pink Floyd - Any of the pre-"The Wall" stuff. I especially love "The Piper at The Gates of Dawn", "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "Animals". Very trippy sound, and very deep and intelligent lyrics.
* Psych/Folk/Experimenting Rock - The Grateful Dead - Try and listen to the "Apple Juice Set". It's got the right kind of chilled-out psychedelic sound to it.
* 60s Psych/Pop-Rock - The Beatles - The two tracks "Love You To" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" from the Revolver album are both superb pieces of music, and very trippy too.
* Psych. Blues Rock with (European) Folk elements - Culpeper's Orchard - Very insightful and catchy 60s Psych. Rock performed by British and Danish musicians. Some of the best Psych. Rock I've heard. You probably won't find it in your local record store, but it's worth looking for . I recommend the self titled album "Culpeper's Orchard".
* Early Psych. Rock - 13th Floor Elevators - The first band known to describe their music as "psychedelic". Very fascinating and deep lyrics and creepy "cave-like" sound. You gotta hear this.
That's what I'd recommend, from the "top of my head".
BTW, Shpongle is quite good too .
Love.

CarbonatedCaps said: obviously i love to listen to music while shrooming, as does everyone i think. i enjoy classic trip music such as pink floyd, but i also love underground hiphop as theres always alot more emotion in the music than mainstream stuff. electronica is fun too. im compiling an mp3 cd of trip music (just got a tight player for christmas) and was hoping that everyone could post a song or two that they especially like while shrooming.

Not sure what you said, but the point is, look around shoutcast or something. It can be nice to just set a station to forget about changing music if you're at home. That station just happens to be what i'm listening to right now.
