My car just shit the bed.

Head gasket is blown and it's goodnight. Don't know what the hell I'm going to do without a car, luckily I don't have to travel far for the next week. What kind of car should I get? I need something cheap and reliable. I was looking at a '95 jimmy last week, has high mileage but the price is right...

I was thinking in a wolswagen fox to replace my car, Is small, more like a city car, dont know if it made it to the north american market.

That's what I thought until now. It was a honda that quit on me and at only at approx 230,000km - even less miles. Well maintained too, consistent oil changes, new parts as necessary, etc.

well, for all your good maintenance, it doesn't sound like
you replaced the gaskets often enough.

diesel engines tend to have longer lives than regular ones,
but a mercedes is going to be inherently more expensive to
repair.

a jimmy... I wouldn't put much faith in that vehicle either.

another rice burner?

Go for a Jeep Wrangler, they are great. You can get them pretty cheap and since they all the look the same, you can say its a 2005.

I say go for a Wrangler, too. They are cheap and cheapish to repair.

I had an 83 Mercedes 300TD (turbo diesel) for a looooooooong time.... i think it had somewhere around 450,000 miles on it when i sold it and from what i understand the guy after me put another 100,000 on it before it finally crapped out

head gaskets are a bit different, gaskets in general arent part of normal
maintenance, it's major service, averaging about $700 depending on the car
DIYers can manage it for about $100-$200, depending on the cylinderhead
composition and how you handle the head during removal

normal maint is belts, hoses, tire rotation and oil changes
