Beds.

Some of you who know me might know that I do not have a bed.. and that I haven't slept on a bed in a long time... years even. I like it, my back feels great, and I sleep 10 times heavier and faster than when I slept on a bed, but some people seem to find it extremely weird.. and unacceptable, so I've decided to get a bed.. just with a very stiff matress.
The thing that I'm wondering about is bed size. I was thinking of getting a double bed, but I'm gonna be putting a lot of money into this, and I want to make sure I get something I won't regret buying. so. In your honest opinions, whats the best size for a bed? Double? Queen? Why is it better than others..? Any specific brands of matress come to mind? Also, what do you think of those japanese beds that are really low to the ground, and more like a surface to keep the matress off the floor than a full fledged bed..?
Normally I wouldn't really care what people think about my sleeping habits, but I have my reasons....

Heh..sleeping on the floor is good for your spine
Double is a decent size.. but if you're ever going to have a chick.. that won't really cut it. You need some space, I'd go for queen.
And now I am a devout supporter of the Tempur-pedic beds. I slept on one for one night and it was the best most comfortable sleep I have ever had. Those commercials aren't lying! Problem is they cost about 3 times as much as regular mattresses.. but in my opinion well worth it. I absolutely hate spring mattresses.. I can't sleep on them anymore. I've been resorting to the floor lately too.
Tempurpedic queen size goes for about $1200 I think.

i have rarely not slept in a bed, the exception being camping trips and road trips. But whenever home, I have always had a bed. So is it that good for your back?

Don't give in, don't waste your money on a bed. It will just take up space in your room and your room will look smaller. Now that you have brought it to my attention, beds really aren't as great as people say they are.
Now you did say something about having your "reasons". Now unless your reasons include boning, you have no excuse to buy a bed. And if your reasons do include boning, then you should buy one of those 6 foot diameter love sacks. It would be cheaper than a bed and more fun for boning too.

How about getting a futon? I always thought they felt better than a bed. I also like to sleep on the floor when my back is bothering me. My matteress is in need of replacement. I couldn't sleep on anything smaller than king because mw and my SO always seem to sleep askew.

Yeah, now that I think about it dude is right. Keep sleeping on the floor. Unless you're getting a bed for boning purposes.

its probably your futon thats giving you a bad back, they have no support in the mattress,id go with a quilted queen(the type with a pillow layer on it).don't forget to turn it over once a month cause it can add a couple more years to it.anything over US$1000 would be ok.

I don't have a futon but when I visit my dad who lives in a yurt in Durango, My back feels great.
BTW kids, don't forget to sun you mattress and pillows at least once a year. It kills the dust mites.

yeah so they say sleeping on the floor may be good for your back, but i don't sleep on my back quite often...when i'm sleeping guaranteed i'll roll to one of my sides or sleep fetal position...
but for a good size for a bed..i'd say go with queen sized. you can roll around on the bed as much as you want (so much space) as well as have someone else sleep in the bed with you.
i say go for it and invest your money into a bed. we spend roughly how much of our lives sleeping? Exactly...and you want to be comfortable whilst you're at it.

I never had a real bed until recently. I slept on the floor for about 2 years in a pile of blankets and pillows. It was quite comfy. After that I slept on some random twin beds, floors, and hotel beds during an unstable stint on the west coast.
There was a couch for about 6 months or so and a futon after that....
My boy suprised me one day coming home with a brand new queen size bed! It really took some getting used to. I would wake up in the morning all creaky. My spine felt all outta whack... but I love it now. I feel like a goddess in my huge queen size bed!

why are people sleeping on the floor? Did you grow up sleeping on the floor. This all sounds very foreign to me. Maybe cause you are foreign?

I have a futon, and I don't think I'll go back to a regular matress. Unless I get seriously involved, and she insists on a regular matress. The main thing I like about my futon is its versatility; it can either be a bed or a couch. I find them VERY comfortable and I wouldn't buy anything else!

I wonder if there is a king size futon I can put on my box springs?
Found a little thread with some people who didn't like the Tempurpedic. Apparently it wears out. http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia10/messages/426.html
