Spirituality is about discussing, analyzing, and critiquing your beliefs to see if they make sense and changing them if they don't. This is fully compatible with philosophy; indeed, it is the core of philosophy.

Spirituality and philosophy coexist naturally. It is this forum that is dysfunctional.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

I think the "dysfunction" is an illusion. Take yer heads out of yer asses and have fun, people! (in other words, let's stop being self-conscious and have some discussion).

If the discussion is straight-jacketed to preclude questioning a proposed set of beliefs to prevent hurting someone's feelings, then the forum is dysfunctional.

If there is no such restriction and those who cling irrationally to their beliefs have their feelings hurt when their beliefs are critiqued, then the forum is dysfunctional.

Either way, free flowing discussion (and fun) is stunted.

There should be a disclaimer before entering here: Abandon All Hope, All Ye Faithful Who Enter Here.

This is pretty unexpected. What happened to the plans to split S&P?

Edit: Got it.

So where are the new guidelines and rules for this forum?

I notice the old intro is still up.

What if someone comes into the Spirituality and Mysticism forum and starts making logical statements? Will this be grounds for banning?

No, most likely, it will be so foreign to them, that it'll just be a mystery as to what you're saying. This will result in them creating their own fantastical conclusions and forming elaborate belief systems revolving around something you never said in the first place.

why start making a split and not just do it all at once?

it's not that big of a deal...i'm really just curious...does it keep the servers down to long or something?

are the rules her in the philosophy forum a bit more relaxed than before?

1. No Flaming
2. Be Respectful

As for why not all at once. I am just a lowly mod.. I cannot answer that question.

Is there going to be a renewed set of guidelines in the forum introduction?

Perhaps pertaining to the nature of the forum, elucidating the proper topics and subjects that will typically be discussed in here?

Will it be made explicit that this forum is suited for formal debate, questioning, and thorough examination of constructs ranging from philisophical principles, personal beliefs and ethics, as well as rationality?

I'm not making the guidelines.. but yes they will be renewed.

Yes.

Perhaps pertaining to the nature of the forum, elucidating the proper topics and subjects that will typically be discussed in here?

Good suggestion. I'll pass it on.
