microwave sterilization

I heard somewhere that you can sterilize jars using a microwave. Is this true?

no.
you can sterilize the substate for the casing, but jars still need to be sterilized in the pc

just got done microwaving the substrate for my casing tonight. I'm using a 100% damp verm. casing. Nobody told me it takes like 30mins for the stuff to cool down after only 2-3 mins in the microwave.

People on the Shroomery have tried sterilizing their jars in a microwave before, but I don't think anyone's had good results yet. The microwaved jars usually get contaminated, unfortunately. Try buying a big cooking pot and boiling the jars up for 2 or 3 hours on a medium heat if you can't get hold of a pressure cooker.

You could always steal a pressure cooker from Wal Mart, as per "the Wal Mart pressure cooker scam"

I have actually had good results with a mircowave. Well, good as in no contams. I only did three jars in this fashion and the entire routine seemed akward, but that probably because it was my first try ever, and I wasn't really sure of what the substrate was supposed to look like anyway. A pressure cooker is definitly the way to go.
