Microwave Sterilization

hi folks,

Im no expert but I wanted to share my experience with an experiment I am trying.

I own a nice pressure cooker so it wasnt neccesary for me to try this, Rather I wanted to try it in the name of science.

using a 15 Cup microwave safe aero plastic container with lid, BRF, VERM, And rye grain mix, I microwaved substrate for 15 mins under close monitoring... Let cool and innoculated... (very important dont do 15 mins straight rather do 7 1/2 mins then let rest for 2 mins, then do 7 1/2 mins) my microwave is 800 watts

5 days later explosive growth is observed... Even faster then my 1/2 pint jars... Deffinietly no signs of contams on day 7......

Did I just get lucky?

I will let everyone know.. Im going to innoculate 15 more containers using the same microwave sterilization technique and see where it takes me...

as for my 1/2 pints... well 6 out of 12 show growth on day 7

15 cup?!? Im not an expert but I do know that 15 cups is a lot of substrate. How long would that take to colonize? Im going to do the same but using 1 3/4 cp containers. I didnt even want to use 4 cup ones because they looked to big also.

ive tried microwave sterilization and i used a tek i found off here someplace. i put a deep plate in the microwave with 1/2" water, and one of those disposable tupperwear guys, mixed my substrate and put it in there, the tek i was reading said 10 minutes, 5 mins i turned it and put for 5 minutes more. when i took it out i let it cool, innoculated and waited. 10 days later there was no growth, 15 days later there was no growth, i set my oven on and opened the lid to mix it up or to see if there was any growth at all. when i opened my lid i was blasted with a funk that made me almost vomit.

perhaps i jsut cooked my substrate
