Sterilization of Substrate in MycoBags
    #512521 - 01/06/02 08:06 PM (23 years, 1 month ago)

I am making my own growth bags with a vermiculite and brown rice substrate. How should I sterilize the substrate while inside the bags?

You must use a heat resistant type bag such as a mushroom culture bag. These also need a filter patch welded to them for air exchange, but you might be able to substitute something like a polyfil plug and a rubber band. The bags should be sealed with an impulse sealer.

Sterilize in a pressure cooker for 1 hour at 15 psi. Good luck.
