50/50 Casing Method Hydration Help Needed

Hey guys its been a while since I've been on here, I had a different ID before but now I can't remember so I created a new one. A while back I had a 50 gallon tank filled with casings in aluminum foil baking trays and they grew beautifully with optimum temps and humidity. However, the problem occurred when it came down to rehydrating. I went with the "dunk tech" and it was horrific, every single one got contaminated. I never had an issue with contamination previously, but now I'm afraid to "dunk" since it was a horrible loss. What other methods aside from spraying directly is there?

Is it a good idea to use a sterilized syringe to inject distilled water into the casing?

Also when I picked the batch there were some gaps open from the cultivation being picked out, I should cover it up with sterilized vermaculite correct?

Yes cover gaps. You can use h2o2 in your misting/dunking water, or bleach in very small amounts. Also raising the ph should help stop green mold.

last time I used bleach it was nothing but trouble, wouldn't misting only hydrate the top layer? I was also told that too much misting that causes water to sit on the top layer will cause contamination. Wouldn't it be better to inject the water through a syringe under the casing? Raising the ph level meaning use more lime or crushed oyster shells? thanks ahead of time

How should you raise the ph in the water that you are using to dunk?

i think he meant raise the ph of the casing layer, not the water. ideally you want about 7 i think. use limestone or crushed oyster shell adn you can't go wrong, or if you have the ability to test ph hydrated lime (you can fuck this up if your not careful. If you want to dunk, dunk in water mixed with h2o2, at about a 10/1 or even 20/1 mixture. This will help keep the contams in the water from living or getting a foothold on your casing. Don't use bleach, its nasty shit and can create mutants.
