I just dissected a human brain

I study neuro psychology and just started with the first course of the year (3rd year of the total study, after this year I have my bnachelor degree)and it's about brain and behavior and a part of the course is dissecting a human brain. We're also going to do the same thing with some rat brains too later on in this course.
It was really interesting to do and I'm not even really far yet; next week I have another two afternoons to complete the dissection
just wanted to share how damn cool it is to slice into a brain and find all the structures in it

That's really cool. I'm considering pursuing neuroscience as a major. That or anthro./sociology.

But either way, I'm an intern at NIH in a schizo. lab so part of my job is to dissect brains too. Fun, eh!?
sounds pretty cool
I was working on that brain together with a few girls and in the beginning they were like "ewww" and "I'm feeling nauseous...". After a while they were actively participating tearing the veal off the brain, investigating everything and saying how cool and interesting it was etc
nice to see how fast people adapt

I want an honest answer to this silly question. While you were cutting into it, did you wonder what it tasted like?
But really, that's neat that you got to do that, it sounds like a great learning experience.

It is fun, although if you bash them in the head too hard to keep them from moving, you can damage the goods....

Is it hard to identify all(or any of) the parts you've seen in your anatomy books when you're doing the actual dissecting? (I'm assuming you've studied brain anatomy, there would be little point in dissecting a brain if you hadn't, right? )

You can identify things pretty good as far as I could see today. I'll have to report back to this later when I finish it next week so I can tell you for shure when we dissected the whole brain.

It's a pretty cool experiance isn't it. My first time I was in awe at the thought of the fact that I was looking at the organ that we experiance and percieve the universe. Neat stuff.
