Anyone watching this show? I don't have a TV, but I've been downloading it. It's fairly interesting so far- I guess you'd call it a somewhat satirical drama. The basic plot is a woman in the "luxury homes" area of Cali is selling pot to support herself and two kids, after her husband died of a heart attack.

I've seen the first five episodes and I'm having mixed reactions. It's definately over the top at times, but it's an interesting look at the life of a dealer outside of the ghetto or organized crime frame of referance. Each episode manages to get in a bit of funny, serious, and fucked up, usually in that order (to keep it dramatic I guess.)

It's worth checking out if for nothing more than the cultural referances. Plus the main character is a MILF in a Lauren Graham kind of way.

Thoughts?

i wish i had a tv... interested in it but i have the feeling they are gonna fuck it up... seems so commercialized

One of the interesting things about not having a TV and being completely detatched from mainstream advertisements is the ability to process and form my own opinion of things without being influenced by the "hype" surrounding it. I haven't even seen an ad for it, I found it by accident on TVtorrents.com.

Right now, I think the show could go either way. They're trying really hard to make the family theme a major one (latest episode just introduced the mother's screw-up brother who invited himself to stay with her). I can't really relate to the characters directly (I'm certainly not from a rich family or the west coast) but it does seem at times like the show is being made to appeal to WB drama fans as a :guilty secret" show. On the other hand, sometimes it seems like it is being used as a light handed social commentary- the woman is introduced to and has to compete with medical marijuana shops, for example. It also goes into ethics of selling (no children) and drug use.

The show hasn't "jumped the shark" yet, imho.

The show is mildly entertaining, but I still watch it.  Its just incredibly unrealistic. She lives in a beautiful house and her only source of income is selling weed.  And she only picks up a couple ounces at a time. :rolleyes: I could go on and on, but I don't think the show is meant to be taken very seriously. HBO has much better TV series writers.
