P. caerulescens and P. aztecorum
    #454967 -

Anyone try P. aztecorum yet? What's the best substrate to grow them on? What's the best substrate for caerulescens?

for the caerulescens, in the book "les champignons allucinogenique du mexico" there's a report about substrates, givin the best results with corn grain, and 2nd corn+straw, with less yields.
i'd follow the same direction that aaron followed for his fruiting weillii, inoculating a mix of various substrates (wood and dung), but without excluding a try with some grain, like rye, wheat or rye grass seed, hopefully could work.
same about the aztecorums.

Thanks. Both prints germinated in three days :) I also was able to germinate my Ps. cyanescens print, so it turns out they're actually viable. Furthermore, my shiitake logs are fruiting, but that's not very relevant...

ive just started messing around with these two psilo's
im not at the fruiting stage yet but from what i can gather
caeru.should be spawned w/grain and should do well on manure/based composts
aztec lends itself to wood based substrates, see aaron wielii posts at the forest floor
keep us posted on your results Azure

I would always be careful about using dung. Many mushrooms won't fructify. Probably adding a dung containing compost would be better suited than adding dung directly .

i have a few colonised petris with them from spores....next step is to make a liquid-culture that you can use for syringes..
substrate is grasseed ...whole oatgrain should also work fine
casing is standard peat/chalk...

I was thinking more down the lines of alder sawdust supplemented with bran for the aztecorum and trying birdseed with the caerulescens. I will also try both on rye grass seed.
