liberty caps?
    #454981 - 11/11/01 01:52 PM (22 years, 4 months ago)

Can anyone identify these? I know the picture isn't very good, but I think they are liberty caps. I took a spore print, but it is very faint and I cannot tell the colors.

Heh your right its not a great picture. I wont give you a 100% but more like 95% that they are semilanceata, i would say 100% but i always have the paranoia of misidentification and without a better pic the parannoia is there. Actually dood i just examined the photo again, i give you a definite guarentee those are liberty caps.

damn, some farmers are cool and others suckass. I got shot at today in a field, i dont think the guy was shooting at me but he was shooting to get my attention and it worked. Actualy the first few shots i just kept on picking but then the shooting kept going, the dood fired like 30 times while i was wandering out of the field. I think he wanted me to run or something.

They certainly look like liberty caps, but the picture isn't quite good enough to be 100% sure. Most look real good, but its hard to say if they are all good from that picture. Try looking at the base of the stem where the dirt is for some bluing, its not always there but it will help confirm the ID. Also try peeling that gelatinous pellicle off a wet specimen before leaving the field. Its a helpful feature to distinguish liberty caps from Panaeolus and Mycena. Once a specimen dries out you can't detect it.

The picture below shows the jelly layer on Psilocybe pelliculosa but it looks the same on liberty caps (Psilocybe semilanceata).

Nice demo Woodsman, I have never seen a picture of that before...will most certainly help to distinguish them from the others. Cheers

Its a frame capture from a video tape. I just set the camcorder on the table and put my hands in front of it. So yes, those are my hands. Its an old picture before I had a digital camera.
