pot, booze and tobacco
    #4519400 -

here's a question for you. I was thinking yesterday, "who has the most to gain out of pot's (and other drugs) illegal status?" well, the tobacco and alcohol industries have the monopoly on addictive mind altering substances. does anyone think they have a lot of influence over politicians on the issue of drug control?

the government gets more money by selling it illegally then if it was legal. for example they make 20 bucks selling it back to the streets illegally while if it was legal theyd only get a dollar. that kinda thing. its a stupid cycle, they sell it then idiots get busted with it and they confiscate it then sell it back. so they r just getting it for free and making money off it. at least thats how i look at it

the thing that cracks me up is that people, especially in the older demographics are so easily manipulated into thinking that legalising drugs is going to turn everyone into a speedfreak or heroin junkie. here in NZ 80% of people between 18 and 24 have smoked pot. has society collapsed? no. alcohol and tobacco do far more damage to society and there are no calls to ban. it's a conspiracy I tell you!

its a monopoly in the sense that as a collective, those companies have control over the only commercial, legal mind-altering substances available. a monopoly can also apply to an industry. it's not limited to just one company.
