in wet sump systems pressure is controlled by a ball and spring, unless you're
running NASCAR or F1 or some other overly sponsored race car you wont be using a
dry sump system (having an external oil pump).

the silicon on mating surfaces for things like that are simply for adhesion, to
keep the gasket from sliding while you're installing the part, not to control
oil flow, the gasket swells and does that as well as maintains the pressure from
the pump to the oil gallery, as of yet, I havent seen a pump that runs higer
then 60psi, heads will hold anywhere from 90-160psi and the majority of those
are either steel shimmed or composit with a steel/copper to maintain the seals
paper simply will not hold up to the pressure


OK we are really going offtopic here BUT...

As for the oil controlling block it's a goofy old british design. I do not have a dry sump on that car I was referring to but dry sump setups are definately NOT limited to high technology cars, you can pick them up for under a thousand dollars. The rules of the class for the car I was referring to does not allow it though.

Also if you think silicone is just for assembly you really need to try building race engines not tractors. Maybe you are confused by the new gaskets with silicone already on them that can expand. I have used silicone by itself without paper or cork in a pinch. The only gasket that really doesn't need sealer that is used on the engines that I build is the head gasket, unless you want to use a copper sealant some feel is better from keepin it from blowin out at high boost.

As for your figures about oil pumps and gaskets holding up, I think you need to start trying these things not speculating. Maybe you are restricting yourself to a specific marquee and not high rev 4 cylinders, 5 cylinders and rotary engines

wow, thats just more than i needed to know.lol. well i called some people and they said they no longer make replacement parts for this cooker. heres a pic.



as you can see its a big 24 quart. the bottom numbers are worn away but i can make out the numbers 38-6(maybe)like i said its worn. the lady at pressto( they make wards replacement parts) said its an antique. f%#k an antique, i want to cook some grain! :bitch:

actually in that application I would use paper gasket since you arent sliding it. Just go to a good auto parts store and buy a roll of the blue stuff

you may be in luck, that one may not require a gasket, it's the same design as
an all american which has a metal to metal seal, a little vaseline is all thats
needed, just make sure you clean it up on the rim of the lid and pot

the lid should have a raised lip under it and the top a small bevel for it to fit in

yep. it's definately a gasket seal, measure it and check people that sell pressure
cooker parts to see if they have one that will fit, if not one can probably be
made, 1/8 inch thick rubber isnt too expensive

Or an steam/air escape plug. When enough steam is coming off it pushes up a little plug which seals the lid. You do not want air in the PC when you are cooking it should be filled with saturated steam. The thing on the right looks like a overpressure safety valve. It can be blocked off if you cannot find a replacement. When you are heating you can leave the lid loose until lots of steam is coming out, then clamp it down.
Old PC's can be dangerous. People are talking of 80lb of pressure, but it is 80pounds PER SQUARE INCH. The lid of that PC has a large area so a massive force is acting on it at 15psi. Plus it is superheated water, not cold oil or air.

The gasket looks like a Presto 21 qt. (old model) It is just a rubber ring. Take the lid to a dealer to match up. Once you get a match, record the number so you can just order some. Don't try to make one. It looks like the old Wisconson foundry jobs with the gasket, now All American. (American has a metal gasket now)
