is grain from a feed store ok to use??
i've used it b-4 with little trouble...lately i've had lots of contams...i'm guessing it's the grain source...
should i go to another feed store or just go to a health store and pay out the ass????

Feed rye works fine. What sort of contams are you getting? Are you preboiling your rye? We get 88 lb bags for under $20, so no, don't rip yourself off at a food store. Beat the contams.

i'm not getting alot of trich contam..but i think it's wet spot bacteria (i think it's called baciilum or something similar)
qt jars start out ok then after i shake myc. doesn't always recover...has a wet look and smells bad.
no i don't pre-boil , but i do presoak 24hrs b-4 pc'ing
i've been pc'ing for about 1-1.5 hrs @ 15-20psi.

Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look, or where to buy rye grain? I can't find it anywhere locally so far, not even Agway. I can get it over the 'net for about $22, but shipping cost is $22 on top of that cause it's so heavy. Where have you found it? Thanks!

try bluethumbs, i get it like for 75 cents a pound and thats with shipping, it a good deal for good rye and fast shipping its a good deal

Feed stores have Rye grain cheap.

Feed Stores are everywhere.

They also carry syringes and needles.

Roadkill: I wish! The only feed store anywhere close to me is Agway, and they don't carry it. Thanks tho.

Any suggestions on organic brown rice? (not flour) Health food stores here suck. Is regular store bought (non-organic) covered with fungicide ya think?

I find rye grain at the local health food store and its dirt cheap, cheaper than brf.

well you already found dr. bluthumbs and yes he is pretty cool i got my first order from him.there is also micron magic. they have everything. i live in a place where i can't even get vermiculite so i switched to penningtons finch seed. i dont care where you live theres a wal-mart somewhere near by. the recipe is basically the same and a 10 lb. bag was only $5. giant bag of perlite $3 i colonize with birdseed on average about 9 days to 100% then add 5 days just to be sure.
